OK, Satellite customers put NO burden on local municipalities (no wires have to be run like cable on local poles), no branch offices are required for customer service, and as far as I can tell there are NO financial costs to a community to support their service.
Basically then, they want to tax the air over "their" land.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the impossible HAS come true. They have found a way to tax the air we breathe....
Some Food for Thought......
As a "rich" taxpayer from new Jersey (I don't see a Lexus in my driveway and they haven't delivered the yacht yet), I've got a household income of $155,000. Two used cars in the driveway and two kids in Public School. Pretty comfortable anywhere else in the country, right? Let's Break it down....
Income = $155,000
Expenses = $24,000 Federal Income Tax
$5,100 NJ State Income Tax
$7,481 Social Security Tax
$2,252 Medicare Tax
$6,200 Property Taxes
$1,100 Water and Sewer Taxes
$360 Mandatory State Unimployment Insurance
$4,890 6% Sales Taxes Paid on all purchases
$500 Paid on various utility taxes (gas, electric, phones, etc.)
$600 Automotive Registrations to DMV
$1400 Automobile Liability Insurance (I'm lumping this in as it is required by the state)
$300 for parking fines (those from the New York City area know you are getting them no matter how hard you try play by the rules)
$100 Parking Meters in town for the year.
$750 for other misc. fees that I am being nickel and dimed with but can't quantify off the top of my head.
All for a grand total of $55,033.00 a year.
Take out another $11,000 for day care (the tax boys say I can only deduct $2,900 of it), $15,600 annual mortgage payment on a 1800 sq. ft. 3 BR 2BTH Ranch, and $7500 for utilities. Factor all that in and I've got $89,133 tied up before I ever buy a single bag of groceries.
But our elected officials need more?
Time to start cutting the state and federal spending. I'm dreading the next bombshell that will come in 20 years when all those Baby Boomers parachute out of the labor force and start drawing Social Security and Medicare.

Amen Bob. Unforutnately the GOP here in NY has turned their back on their fiscally responsbile roots and has instituted a ridiculously high tax increase, and on top of that property taxes are going up 10% here. The next thing thing you know they'll be taxing tap water from my private well....
I hear ya, Bob! If everyone took the time to REALLY look and see how much of their income is taken from them like you just did, there might actually be an outcry.
My household income is well under $100k/year so that puts us in the top 10% of wage earners I believe. Or as some would refer to us, "the evil rich who don't pay enough taxes."
By the way, my satellite bill is taxed here in TN, but since we give drivers licenses to illegal aliens, what else would I expect?

It drove me nuts how it seemed that I was always broke at the end of the month, when I supposedly made a nice buck. And I'm lucky enough to get a company car so I save on my auto insurance the company car is a used car... (we get cream puffs coming off 2 yr. leases).
I'm just waiting for the day when the alternative minimum tax snares us. So that I lose the ability to deduct the taxes that NJ takes from me so that I can give it to Uncle Sam (like I'm buying a Jaguar with the money the state is p-ssing away.)
