View Full Version : issues with The Weather Channel
i been noticing latey that The Weather Channel is having issues. i not sure if it's on TWC's end or Dish Network's end. the problem is that every few minutes (usally after a Local on the 8s ends) that the audio and video starts acting choppy like an skipping CD, but the only thing not screwed up on the video is the blue bar at the bottom of the screen. is anyone else having the same issues on 214 in both the SD and HD versions.

Yes, although I only have issues with the audio at the time indicated above. I have not seen any sign of a video problem. It does not happen after every "locals on the 8's" but many. Could it have anything to do with that aggravating "Press select for info" banner that comes up during every "locals on the 8's" and every time they return.
That sounds like a satellite feed issue. The blue bar is generated by a specialized computer and thus is not affected. (Its forecast data comes from the Internet.)

You can get rid of that aggravating "Press select for info" by going the the menu and click on installation "6" then on "1" and go to "Enhancements". Click on disable. I had an issue of closed captioning going off every time the "Press select for info" came up. I sent an email to ceo@echostar.com. This is information they gave me.

Thanks. I got rid of the "Press Select for info" banner. It did not prevent the studdering about one minute into each live segement however.

"she had been assigned to the swing shift" :D:D:D
now I'd love to see what goes on during the swing shift.... :)
Sharon Resultan left the channel to be a full-time mom.
If you have future issues with The Weather Channel, I suggest that you contact me, because I know where to go to get help for this.
looks like Dish hasn't fixed the problem yet, i noticed it was still doing the same thing. after an local on the 8 where that blue bar was missing. i thinking this might be an problem with their Intellistar computer that runs the local on the 8s and the bar. they may have to just restart the system
A whole other team of people at The Weather Channel work on these issues.

Although admittedly a minor problem it is getting old. I know better than to call E* about it as they would first ask me to unplug my receiver for a while and when that did not work they would want to send out a technician. I have never found a CSR who could grasp the concept that if I am having a problem on only one channel then everyone must be having the same problem.
well, i just send an twitter message to them asking them to fix the problem.
anyway, after sendind an message to their twitter, Dish Network replied back to me and here's what they said
I'll let the right ppl know about this and look into it.
i hope they get it fix now

That would imply that the Engineering Dept is now aware of it, but I have heard nothing about it at work today, nothing in the Updates either.
I will monitor my side and get back to you all if I hear anything.

Unfortunately all that could be done since it is a broadcasting/programming issue would be to let our Eng. Dept. aware of the issue by submitting the correct paperwork.
Fixes are dealt with as quickly and efficiently as possible but sometimes if it is an issue with the broadcasters side it gets a little difficult as that isn't under our domain nor control.

It may be fixed. I have not noticed the skipping sound and picture for a couple of days, although I only watch the Weather Channel for about 10 minutes at a time. Has anyone else noticed?

i noticed the skipping is now happening during there Local on The 8s and the Weather Channel logo on the LDL that covers the logo that is used for the feed is an little realigned the wrong way. but the skipping hasn't happened in during the program, just the Local on the 8s. i was watching earlier.
And so the Weather Star team must keep trying.

I have a question. How come Dish never got the Local On The 8's thing set up? Directv has your local weather during the Local On The 8's now just like cable does. I've seen it. It's good!
Is there any chance Dish will ever get it done like they originally intended to?

are you an Dish Network Customer, then if not, then let me tell you about the Weather Channel feature.
Dish does have an interactive feature, but they don't have the Severe weather alerts things that DirecTV has in their version, since Dish beat them to the punch on having an TWC Interactive feature. i seen the DirecTV Local On The 8s feature on youtube. i bet the DirecTV customers here in North Texas are enjoying having that feature since we are getting hit with some storms.
and back to the topic, looks like Dish got that problem fix and the local is now back to where it belongs on the Blue LDL bar.
