Hello! I'm not having much luck getting dishpointer.com to work on my 3G cellphone. Does anyone know of a mobile phone formatted webpage that you can simply plug in the zip code and type of dish/lnb and get your basic coordinates? The less bells and whistles the better considering it's a cell phone screen LOL.

If there isn't one, are you aware of any cell phone application for this purpose? My phone is equipped with GPS and a built in navigator (i.e. Garmin)....I wonder if there isn't a "compass" program as well ....I have 8GB of storage so program size isn't an issue. :)

TIA!

This post from DishPointer itself will tell you why it doesn't work:

Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta is out and you should put it on your PocketPC PDA/Handheld running Windows Mobile 5 or 6 now.

Why? It’s the only browser for mobile handhelds which fully supports Javascript and Ajax - and that’s required to show Google Maps applications such as DishPointer. The only other alternative for using DishPointer on the go would be Apple’s iPhone or iTouch.

Rats! My phone doesn't have Windows mobile, but it is compatible with Opera.

I guess I can try. Thanks for the info!

On a side note.....can a receiver bought on the cheap without an access card be used to get coordinates and tune the dish? What would be the cheapest model receiver that would give the options for all LNB/Dish type options?

Thanks again!

Why don't you print the picture with the resulting coordinates and map from dishpointer?

Yeah....that would be the easiest way. I am just trying to reduce the paper trail LOL.

I broke down yesterday and bought a Birdog v2.5. After seeing a couple of the roof dishes at the MDU complexes I service, that alone made it worth the extra price. I can't imagine dragging a TV and receiver.....not to mention an extension cord or portable power supply, up on some of these roofs.

Now I have to practice peaking with the Birdog on my dish......
