View Full Version : Just got my 2nd 721!!
Well, being the proud owner of a PVR 721 for over 10 months, I could not stand it anymore. I convinced my wife we needed a 2nd 721 for the master BR to replace the trusty ole 5000 there. The new receiver is quieter than the 1st one! Now I'm completely spoiled, if I can only keep her from using this one all the time too... LOL. One of the first questions she asked "Does this mean I have another 90 hrs of recording time?" OMG, I think I created a MONSTER, she already records MORE than she can watch..... Of course she SPEED watches shows now.... drives me CRAAZZZEEE. LOL.

How do you have the two 721s hooked up? Do you have a quad LNB or some kind of switch? Any other receivers in your house?

Either two dish 500's, a special switch, or a quad. In the future one will be able to hook up two tuners with one wire.

Why would you need 2 dish 500s or a special switch? A DP34 has four outputs, you can just run two to each 721.

I have only two receivers. I upgraded my legacy dual/twin lnbf's on my Dish 500 to a DishPro Quad back last summer. Another option is to use SW34's with a DishPro Dual (also makes you ready for additional (3rd) sat. Hey, I have had no problems out of my almost year old 721, AND for 1.99 a month I'm covered on BOTH receivers AND equipment on ANY failures. Cheap insureance.

Your old Dish 500 setup had either 2 dual LNBFs or a legacy Twin, the terms are not equivalent or interchangeable.
The DP34 (not SW34) can be connected to a DP Twin. The upcoming Dual is a DP LNBF with 2 outputs that can be used on the 3rd sat's dish if you want to use 2 DP21s instead of the DP34. The DP34 I believe will typically be used with a DP Twin and DP Single.
Whatever your setup, if it lets you connect a 2nd 721 it can't be all bad! And the wife is happy too!
Geez, so sue me I used the wrong semantics......LOL. I stand corrected it IS DP34 NOT SW34. And I did have 2 dual LNBF's connected using an SW42. NOW I have the DishPro QUAD LNBF with two outputs going to each of the two 721's. And you can use the DishPro Quad with the DP34, but there will be two additional outputs from the Quad left over (i.e. with a DP34 on a Dishpro Quad you whould have a total of 6 outputs available 2 outputs from LNBF to DP34, leaving four FROM the DP34 and Two from the DPQuad, with the DP34 accepting an additional input from a 3rd Sat and ONLY those outputs from the DP34 would have ALL 3 sat.'s available). I am not an installer, I just have installed and maintained my own equipment.
Yes, she is happy as am I, grin.
If anyone is interested I have the following for sale 2 5000 Receivers, one with the Dolby converter, 2 SW21's, 1 SW42, 2 Dual LNBF's, and one DishPro Legacy adapter.

It's a common point of confusion and quite understandable given that the names don't match the meanings. A twin is one of two separate but identical things but a Twin is one thing that incorporates 2 functional parts which you might think of as a dual except that refers to a single satellite LNBF with 2 outputs. And now there are DP equivalents of legacy switches with more and the way ...
