Hi all, looking to switch to Dish from Comcast, and wanted to ask a few questions about installation. I'm in a 3 story townhouse, will have 1 HD TV on the main floor, but also want to have an HD feed going to my PC in the basement, and a 3rd feed (SD is fine) going up to my bedroom.

Now, I know that standard installation includes only 1 wall penetration, so I am looking to get an unemployed electrician friend, to so some cleaner coaxial cable runs ahead of time. What I'm more curious about is, for the above, am I going to need two HD receivers? If one of the two is a DVR receiver, will the other HD receiver be able to access DVR'd media as well?

Thanks in advance!!!

If your fine with both HDTVs having the same content on both, all the time, you can run HDMI to one HDTV and Component to the other, granted you can get the cables to each TV/PC.

If not you will need to HD receivers.

Hopefully that answers your question.

HD to a PC (or any other device capable of recording HD) is not an option unless you have a component video capture card.

You may be able to go straight to the display if you have enough inputs (or use a video switch).

I'd want to have different video feeds, so the gf can watch one thing while I watch something else downstairs. 2 receivers it is.

Now, if I have 2 HD receivers and 1 is a DVR, can the other receiver view things stored on the first DVR?

I already have a TV card in my PC, so that won't be a problem.

No DVR programs do not pass from 1 receiver to another. Does your TV card have "COMPONENT" or HDMI inputs if you just have COMPOSITE you can't get HDTV.:)

you'll need two boxes for what you're wanting. you can use an hd dual tuner for one tv & an hd single tuner for the 2nd hd tv.

as far as dvr on both hd tv's you would need to have two hd dvr receivers for that which would probably be a 612 & a 622 or 722(k)

622 & 722 are both dual tuner dvr's, where TV1 would be high def dvr & TV2 would be down converted hd. You can share the recordings between the two on the dual tuner since they share a hard drive. the other receiver however could not access the recordings.

you'll either get a 612/722(k)(or622) or 211k/722(k)(or622)

the other alternative is to use an external hard drive, if im not mistaken i believe you have to pay a one time fee to enable that though.

I already have a TV card in my PC, so that won't be a problem. It most certainly will be a problem. RF modulated signals are NTSC (SD) only at the consumer level. As I said previously, you MUST have a component capture card to bring HD content from a DISH (or DIRECTV or cable) HD receiver.

This is otherwise known as the "Analog Hole".

It's one wall/down though the floor penetration per outlet. Basicly wall fishing is not included in standard installation.

Through the use of diplexers on the back-feed, that would keep wall pens to a min. Prob only 2 pens in this case, one into your basement, then one into the bedroom is all that is needed.
