I've been trying to install a 1000.4 without a meter but have so far been unsuccessful. Maybe someone has some suggestions.

I first cleared the switch, by disconnecting the coax and running check switch. I reconnected the coax and then went to the signal strength page and set the sat to 72, transponder 19. I attempted to get a signal but the signal strength meter always read zero. I tried the same thing for 61.5 and 77 but had no luck.

I knew approximately where the sat was located, so I positioned the dish and tried reading the signal strength again. There was still nothing. I then performed a check switch and the unit found 61.5 on position 1 with a signal strength a little over 50.

Since I received no signal until I performed the check switch. It seems to me that you can't really use the receiver to perform the initial tuning. Is this correct?

Does anyone have any suggestions how I could finish this off without using a meter?

Thanks,
Al

Sometimes you have to do the software download before you will see the other satellites. As long as it doesn't show 91 or 82 satellites you are OK. You will have to do another Check Switch after the download.

On a brand new, out of the box receiver, you won't have the proper software to see the Eastern Arc, so you need some method of updating the software before you would be able to get it to work. Ideally, that means hooking up to an existing, pointed dish.

This is no longer true. The last one I did was OK. All of them before this I thought I was lucky when the 61.5 would show up.
