All,

We had a pretty strong wind & rain storm this afternoon in Charlotte, NC.

When I got home, I noticed that I was not getting all of my Dish channels. Before I go any further, here is my setup:

I have a Dish 5000, which was installed about 2 months ago. It is the one with the large horn (double?). It allows me to have 4 TV's in my home each receive a unique signal. It is not routed through a switchbox. The installer hooked it up to my cable box. So I know this is not a switchbox problem.

Anyway, back to the problem: On 2 of my sets I am getting all the channels I always have. The signal strength on those is about 120 or so accessing 119 West satellite. The problem is on the other 2 sets in the house. They are only getting about a 50-55 signal strength accessing the 119 West.

How can 2 of the sets be showing a strong signal with no channel loss and 2 of the sets show a weak signal with half the channels not accessible.

Is it possible that 1 of the 2 portions of the "horn" is now misalined, or something has come loose.

Before I have the local Dish folks come out and ring me up for a service charge, I figured maybe I could fix it.

If you have easy access to the install location, confirm all the cables are tight and look good. Which channels, specifically, are you missing? If you go through the point switch menu, do transponders on 110 show low signal as well or just 119? Do you have trouble with your locals?

I'm missing a variety of channels. Some get error saying 119 can't be found. Some show 110 can't be found. Both 119 and 110 are at about 55 signal strength.

On my two sets that are working, I am getting in the 120's for signal strength.

I believe 1 of the cable must have gotten loose on the dish that is feeding the two sets with weak signals. Does that make sense?

If my dish was misaligned due to the extremely heavy winds earlier today, then wouldn't all my sets be getting poor siignals?

My locals are coming in fine.

If you have 4 receivers in your home with 4 different Dishnet channels at the same time you have a quad LNB which has a built in switch. If 2 receivers have missing channels its not do to the weather! First confirm your using the thick RG-6 cable connected from the dish all the way with NO Connections in between to the dish. Then have somebody check your connectors at the ends of your 2 cables that show problems to make sure they cannot be pulled off by hand or crimped with pliers.
