View Full Version : anyone else going from color to B&W
Is anyone else seeing there channels going from color to black and white and back again? I am seeing it quite frequently. I mostly notice it on my 6000 because thats where I watch Dish the most, but I also noticed it on the 300 last night. Actually, thats a good thing since I was wondering if it was my expensive home theater reciever that was going bad. There doesn't seem to be any one channel that it happens on. I've had it on the locals, the super stations, and on the top 100. It's wierd.

Wierd indeed. I only noticed it yesterday, while watching the Bewitched marathon on TV Land. ;)

Happens to me also on TVLand. Andy Grifith seems to have this problem more than others.
I've noticed a lot of the older TVland episodes showing in black and white. Must be polarized solar flatulence
- or something.
Thanks for the humor folks, but it was a serious question!

Serious answer:
I have not seen this phenomenon on my 6000 or 501.
Maybe I need to watch even more than I do.
Serious Answer II
Run the 6000 video directly to your monitor for a while, bypassing your a/v receiver. If the color drop continues, it's not your a/v receiver.
Are you using S-video cables? Sounds suspiciously like a loose S-video cable connector. Plug 'em in tightly.
Thanks folks, yes, that is the next step. Ugh! Ripping open my cabinet again. I am hoping its lose cables. Won't be before the weekend, so I'll see if it continues this week.

cab,
Are you using the 6000 and the 300 on the same set? And if you are, are you using the same cables? If it's 2 receivers with different cables to the same set, then I would think there's something wrong with the set itself.

Sorry for the humerous attempt :D The 6000 has many outputs. See if the B&W is common or exclusive among them.

thanks for the thought. No. 2 different rooms. Bedroom and living room. I guess I should watch the bedroom set more often to see if it happens more often there but i keep falling asleep :)

This has happened to me also on occasion with my 3900, most often after a smart-card pull. The chroma will usually come back within a minute or so.
I used to work in TV repair field. It could be your TV. What kind of set is it?

Might check your cables outside the house. To have two sets of S-video cables bad on 2 sets is rare. It's possible you have some condensation on your cables at the ground block.

Michael Jackson did it!
Thanks for everyones help. It does look like it was loose cables on both tv's. At least so far (fingers crossed). I retightend everything on both setups last weeikend and so far have not seen the problem since. Of course now that I have said this.....
