For crissakes Directv your commercials don't have to be twice as loud as already high volumed commercials.
I refuse to buy another pay per view as long as their annoying commercials blast me.
WE already know you own the media rupert, but you dont have to shove it down our throat.

He may "own" the media but he has no connection with "DirecTv"
Rupert Murdoch freed the turd bird last year and turned it over to John Malone who has been concentrating on grooming it for sale ever since.

And who's Dave?

And Rupert hasn't owned DirecTV in a while.
I think "Dave" is what hackers used to call DirecTV. Been out of use for years really.

Why "Dave"? Now, if they called Dish "Charlie", that'd make more since, since Charlie Ergen is almost synonymous with Dish Network. But "Dave", just not getting it.

It's a valid complaint. Should people stop complaining and just live with it? Supposedly DirecTV reads this forum, perhaps if they see enough complaints they'll do something about the issue...although I doubt it.
On another note I took the Dave reference to the line from 2001 "Dave, can you hear me?"

Urban legend has this being someone that offered the DirecTV hacks for illegal programing and the eventual evolution to E* & D*.
Like the OP, Apple used the same line at the end of this: http://digg.com/d12kdB

Guys .. that's a good find, really it is .. but that's not what Dave really means .. Someone else got it right.
Doug,
This is OT and not all that important....but how do you know what the OP was referring to when he made the quote? I'm not saying you're wrong...just wondering if one of the mods here has ESP or perhaps you know the OP?

Context is pretty clear. :)
For those commenting about "how many times this concept has shown up", one of the axioms of an active forum is: "there will be duplicate threads." :)
If they are all within the same day, we try to steer or merge toward one or two. As they spread out over time, that effort isn't worth our time and potential for stifling conversation. So they happen. :)
Cheers,
Tom
So what say you, ganjamaster? :) In what sense were you invoking "Dave"?

Maybe so, BUT the squeaky wheel gets the oil, err the reduction in audio compression.
Levels are sometimes too high. Of late I have noticed that some of the PPV spots are in line with the program feed. They must be trying to reduce the annoyance factor.
Absolutely true about refusing to purchase a PPV until they have changed the audio. If you don't buy they will change it.

"Plan B":
call or email DirecTV and express yourself.
I did this over the banner adds in my guide and while they're still there, the number of them has dropped to "about" 2 [though I think I saw three last week].

hahaha...yep...another good one.
It's obvious what has to happen here...we need a poll. Then we need someone to track down the OP and find out the reference...then...maybe...we can work on the next great mystery.

Well, there is no mystery. "Dave" is what hackers called DirecTV back in the day. As opposed to "Charlie" for Dish. Now why they chose Dave may be a mystery but it does start with a D. :)

This about sums it up. There was a pretty hard core of hobbyist/opportunist types that inhabited a variety of boards, sharing knowledge, etc. The general reference to the signal provider was "Dave" and it kind of stuck from there.
