For a few weeks I had the Family package without HD Access, but I was able to record and view OTA programming in high-definition. I've since added HD Access, though with the sparse channels in the Family lineup, to be honest, I'm not sure it's worth it. For now I've added the HD Extra pack (free for 3 months) to make me feel like I'm getting a little more for my money. :)

They let you have a HD DVR without HD access ?

Yep, I was surprised, but when I changed Choice DVR Plus to the Family Package, I noticed the HD Access wasn't included on my account, as I expected it would be. I wasn't getting any of the Family channels in HD, but I was getting my OTA channels in HD. Further, in my conversations with a CSR at the time, I was led to believe HD Access was optional. Perhaps because I'm well beyond my original two-year commitment period?

Maybe, the agreement states:

DVR service activation ($6/mo.) required for DVR leases; HD Access fee ($10/mo.) required for HD Receiver leases; and, both DVR service and HD Access fee payment required for HD DVR leases.

Hey, the better for you I guess :D

Since the OP is beyond his 2 yr agreement, it is more cost effective to let him reduce his package and keep the equipment he has than to swap out for SD equipment since he will probably go back to HD at some point. The current push is to eventually have everyone on the same platform anyway.
