I am looking into getting a HDTV Television shortly but have questions about the availability of channels as well as equipment.

I have a DirectTIVO and know there are boxes out for HDTV but yet I don't want to give up TIVO. I have heard there will be a HDTV version of the TIVO coming out soon. Is this true? Any information on this? I know there are other PVR's coming out as well now that you don't even pay a monthly fee but yet maybe they aren't as nice as TIVO but maybe that's the way to go. I'm interested in any information on these and obviously want one that works with DirectTV.

Next, what about channels? I have heard there's a package of HDTV channels but you pay a lot and there's not many channels. In the future I know by 2006 or so broadcasters have to start offering a HDTV version. Is this true as well for all satellite/cable broadcasters? At that point, will many channels then become available in HDTV? As well, what are prices expected to be like? I just hate to think of costs being something like $200 a year for a HDTV version of what you can currently get for $50.
