Does anyone know if the NFL plans to blackout the pre-season games that are shown on the Fox Sports Net stations through the DTV Sports Pack? Last year I sat down to watch a game from Arizona because I love football. The game was on for 10 minutes and then the rest of the game was blacked out.

I think if the NFL wants to attract more viewers, they should allow pre-season games to be shown in out of market areas.

They will be on the NFL Channel. All the pre-season games.

Thanks for the information. Here is the portion of the article from Vic Carrucci, national editor of NFL.com.

On whether his long-term vision for the NFL Network includes broadcasting or re-broadcasting games aired on network TV: "At the moment, we don't have any expectation that it will involve the live broadcasting of games. Will it involve the re-broadcasting of games after they've been televised on another network? I don't know. We got the resolution adopted at our meeting in March that in the preseason, at least, the NFL Channel would be a place where you can see all the preseason games on a non-conflicting basis. In other words, if there were a Jets game in New York or a Bears game in Chicago, the affiliate would still have that game exclusively on a live basis; the NFL Network would have it on a delayed basis. But the fan would be able to see all of the preseason games on some basis on the NFL Network."

So is the NFL Network another DirecTV exclusive, or is it available on Dish Network / cable?

I believe it's a Directv Exclusive.

I wish I could see all the Bears preseason games. With Soldier Field set to re-open newly renovated and Brian Urlacher locked up with the team for the next 11 seasons and the acquiring of Kordell Stewart I look for the Bears to be going places this season. Maybe atleast they can give Green Bay a run for there money now.

Its a companion to the NFL Sunday Ticket and therefore a DirecTV exclusive.

Hey Msguy,

If you get D* & NFL Sunday Ticket, you *can* see Bears' preseason games on the new NFL Channel.

Whoo-hoo! I've been hoping for this for years. FINALLY a chance to see competitions from training camp. I was hoping to get to see preseason games somehow soon.

will they show live preseason games? or will they be tape delayed and what's this about a new nfl channel? is this only 1 channel or will they show all the preseason games like they do regular season telecasts on different channels when the games are going on?

Bears Fan this is great news. I can't wait to view pre season games. I hope they will be live and not tape delayed. Sometimes if you get the Distant Network Feeds they'll have a Jets game on CBS 2 out of New York or something and you can see the game any way. Or CBS 2 in L.A. Sometimes Carries Oakland Raider Pre Season. then there are always the national telecasts i believe that ABC usually does 2 preseason games. I know sometimes they have the preseason game in Mexico City when Dallas plays there and then there is always the Hall of Fame game from Canton, Ohio usually on a Preseason Monday night Telecast on ABC.

Msguy,

It's been stated in the article that's linked above that the games will be on tape delay.

At this point, I'll take seeing games any way I can...even if they're almost a week later.

Yeah, there are a few games that are on nat'l TV...and on the nat'l feeds too I suppose.

If only Chicago locals weren't on spot beam...

I know what you mean. CBS 2 Chicago for most Bears preseason telecasts would be nice to receive.

I e-mailed Directv to see when the NFL channel (703) would be turned on. their response was 9/7/03. I found this to be odd because of the following article listed below.

I guess they aren't going to show Pre-season games on a tape delay basis.

That is pretty interesting. I'm getting mixed signals here, though. D* says the channel won't be turned on until early September...but then articles state that preseason games will be shown on a tape-delay basis, as stated above.

 ???????

It would make no sense to release information saying the new NFL Channel will show pre-season games, and then not have the satellite carrier turn the channel on until after the preseason is already over.

I'm totally confused. I have *no idea* what's going to happen for 2003. Maybe the pre-season telecasts won't happen until the 2004 season.

Who knows? We aren't getting straight answers from anybody.
