View Full Version : Thinking about switching to DirecTV

I'm currently a DISH network customer in the northern VA area. I'm thinking about switching to DirectTV, but was wondering what new high definition receivers may be coming out for DirecTV. I've been patiently waiting for the Dish 921PVR, but still don't know when it may come out. I'm looking for a dual tuner HD receiver with PVR like features (assume this would be DVR/TIVO in DirectTV lingo). Is something like this being planned for DirectTV and when?

Until either of these receivers becomes available, I'm thinking about getting an OTA HD receiver w/antenna so I can get local HD programming. I'm currently not getting the local ABC station due to the current issues going on with DISH and the local affiliate, which gives me another reason to go with an OTA solution. Which OTA HD receiver / antenna is recommended?

Any feedback would be appreciated as I wade thru all the options.

UltimateTV PVR HD? I haven't heard of a High Definition PVR that will be out before the 921 other than the Dish JVC 9000. Pick up a used 6000 for now, you'll get your OTA, sell it when the 921 comes out.

It wasn't HD... maybe I wasn't clear. Sorry about that.

The DIRECTV HDTV PVR is scheduled to be out the end of this year or early next year. Not many details have been announced about it since a very early prototype was shown at CES in January.
