...but don't worry, just for internet. I've had an AT&T DSL dry loop account for a few years to compliment my DirecTV, but their service (at least in my area) has been consistently slow and spotty. Charter (the only other internet option in my area) has decent deals for 6 months, but we'll see what happens after that. Anyone have any experience with Charter internet?

Charter internet service will be slow at times as well. Cable internet service is like being on a neighborhood network. The more people using the service at a given time, the slower the service. I had Charter internet for about 8 years and the more people that signed up for it the slower my speed got. I just switched to ATT DSL and I now have a consistent 3.2 Mbps speed. Hope you have better luck with Charter than I did.
FWIW, I've had Comcast TV and internet for the last 4 years, and the internet has been great. (I think most neighbors use DSL, cheaper and 3.0mbps down in my subdivision)
I switched to Direct TV due to losing the NFL network soon, but have been pleasantly surprised with the content, better dvr, and even the csr's. Well, now that I'm off the Comcast TV, I have to go back to DSL, since the internet price w/o cable tv is almost $60/month. DSL is half that (and half the bandwidth)

Yeah, I had TW cable internet for a while back in the day and to be honest it was consistently better than AT&T has been, but I think it all depends on where you live. The last place I lived that had AT&T DSL was fine, it's just my new one that sucks, which seems odd since the AT&T base is like 2 or 3 blocks from me...

I also have Charter for internet too (only option other than dial-up), service is pretty stable so far. After your promotion period, the price will go to the regular price ;)

Charter Internet is much better then cable. They are very slow if you need service, it can take up to two weeks to get someone to your house.
I have found the prices are good if you call in every 6 months.

Okay, so maybe I'm not getting Charter cable... Despite calling Charter's 800 number and being told I get a 6 mo price of $24.99, an installer finally called me today (two days later than he was supposed to) and told me the real price is $39.99 for 6 mos before it goes up to $54. Not only that, but there's an $80 setup fee. I asked why the sales dept didn't seem to know this and he told me the people at their 800 number are actually a third party (I have no idea why) and don't have the correct information. I called the sales dept 2 more times and was then told prices of $49/mo and $34/mo for 6 mos. I still have no idea what the actual cost would have been because I said if you can't live up to your first offer, I'm out. I then gave up and went back to my slow, but logical AT&T DSL service. No wonder the cable industry is dying, they have NO IDEA what they're doing over there. :nono2:

Charter used to service my area til Suddenlink took over, now never had Charter as didnt live here when they were but my mother did, since she had high-speed internet & I had dial-up, I visted her more often then :)
she however did have lots of issues with them, I've had 1 maybe 2 downtimes in last 18months total 1st time was about 3hrs, next was about 30min or less, (The Scientific Atlant equip they use for digital cable isn't even 1/10th as reliable as the internet however)
Are you using the ATT provided DNS servers? I and many others started using www.opendns.com a few years back and it has helped greatly as the Att DNS servers are slow and flaky.

I've been using the AT&T servers because I've had to renew my DHCP lease constantly the last few weeks, and was letting them provide all the servers, but now that I have a stable connection again, I'll try those out.
