View Full Version : Locals are good but.......
for those that are eligible to recieve them but.....what about other channels like "Goodlife TV", VH1-Country", "MTX-X", "MTV-Soul" among others? Would be nice to see mainstream programming as well.
I agree with you Peter. Sometimes I get so cought up in the must carry stuff I keep forgetting that Dish should be adding other channels like the ones you mention. Unfortunately with the the merger stuff also on the horizon it makes me wonder if Charlie will even bother trying to negotiate new channels.
I agree with that also. How about expanding Turner South to the rest of the country, not just southeast. What about america one netwrok or american independent network. The only ones who WILL get locals are the bigger markets or 1st 100 cities. Everyone will get nothing. Anyone agree with that statement?
It's not up to Dish Network, or DirecTV, to expand Turner South.
AOL Time-Warner is the company you want to talk to about that.
They buy programming based on the zip codes they are seen in... and aren't allowed to show that programming outside those areas.
DBS companies can "negotiate" all they want with AOL, but unless AOL wants to pay more for programming on Turner South (and they'll have to deal with sports blackouts, too), AOL is going to stick to their guns and now allow Turner South to be seen outside... umm... well... the south.
Locals on DBS...Iv always been against them and will be against them until the merger is complete and PQ is better, if and when Buff. is up I wont get them, for me I see no sence paying an extra $6/month for 8 channels when I can them plus 14 others that will never be on US DBS for free.

True but when you have a PVR, they are worth ever penny especially when commercial watching becomes a thing of the past.
Steve,Chris how many of the locals do you possibly see on dish or directv by or after 1/1/02? Do we feel that they'll have so many cities with so many stations there won't be enough room for the smaller cities? I'd like to get mine, but even dish said they won't be on because my locals can't afford to be on. Won't there be alternative to cities who can't receive their locals? I would hope they would.
I dont see anymore cities being added until after the spotbeams and after that it might be just a few. What DMA are you in? If you live in a grade B or white area you might qualify for Distant Nets. Click here (http://customersupport.dishnetwork.com/customernetqual/nqCustomerLocalsCheck.jsp) to see if you qualify for any locals. Chris, makes a good point about locals and PVRs but the only way to PVR some of the things I watch is with a SA TiVo or Replay or a grey market subscription to BEV and a 5100.

Steve,I live about 25-30 miles away from the nearest town that has translator station to send out ABC tv,but the translator station is another 5-10 miles past the twon. So i had my ABC networks taken off in 7/99 and cannot get them back ever. Chris told me i got screwed. But i've been fighting it and emailing my story too abc, dish, and directv and there was nothing i can do. I live in northern minnesota and duluth,mn are my locals. I wish somthing can be done about helping out smaller markets, but that's not likely. I would hope if i don't get my locals,i'd settle and PAY for the locals in mpls,mn.
