Dish will be offering this soon, will dtv be getting anything like this?
I've gone from twc to fios, moved forced to have cablevision, now making the leap to sat. This feature might send me to dish while I'm leaning twards dtv otherwise.

Although DirecTV used to and still may rebroadcast some of it's NFL superfan pass via a link via slinbox feeds (still under contract to do so); don't count on their receivers incorporating this technology.
Slingbox/slingmedia is now and has been owned by the Echostar coporation (the parent company of Dishnetwork) for some time. Thus the incoporation into one of their new and upcomming HD receievrs. they also have annonced and unvailed a cable company box that will be sold/distributed to some providers with the same technology.
Seeing that Dishnetwork and DirecTV are direct competitors; it is highly unlikely that this will spill over in order to give dishnetwork a advertisable advantage over their "direct"v competition; so to speak.

Point taken, I knew dish owned slingbox but I feel like that give a large enough Competitive advantage for dtv to develop there own service. I was thinking along the lines of how TiVo came out now everone has a dvr, I guess that's just speculation at this point.
Thanks for the reply

Go with DirecTV and buy a slingbox separate.
Having a STB with slingbox being built in is like having a TV with built in DVD player. If the TV dies you have to buy a TV AND a DVD player to replace it.

Well keep in mind that DirecTV also signed a new contract with Tivo at this point. Tenatively they should be producing new Tivo enabeled HD units by 2010's end. So we will hve to wait and see what if any comprable tivo to go services will be enabled on the new units for direct competition.

Except that thay are "leased" so they would be replaced at Dishnet's expense. Add to that that they are firmware upgradable via either the ethernet or sat input and you take being outdated out of the equation too.
Although the seperate component route is what I'm currently doing with a DirecTV HD DVR and a Slingbox Pro-HD; most customers aren't technically inclined anough to setup a senario like this. Thus a all-in-one solution is at the top of most peoples wish lists.
Having a STB with slingbox being built in is like having a TV with built in DVD player.Given that an HD Slingbox is still over $200, it seems like having it built in may be a major financial advantage.

Thats a good point but is there a subscribers fee for slingbox as a separate component? Im sure there will be when dish network rolls it out.

There is no fee for slingbox services. It's a 1 time upfront cost for the equipment only.
The only thing extra would be if oyu weanted the mobile aplucation to view on a cell platform which ois a 1 time 30 fee. the computer application for mac or pc is feree; it's only the cell platforms that at the extra fee explained.

Echostar owns and operates the satellites that Dish Network uses, and manufacturers the receivers for Dish Network. However, as of December 2007, Echostar does not own Dish Network. Obviously the two companies are very close, and they share a CEO, but they are two separate corporations. As an example of this, Echostar is actually bringing out a tru2way cable DVR based on Dish's 922.

But will that stay the same when the Dish units with sling built in hit the street for that unit? Probably, but till I see it, I can't be sure...
And unless you have more than 1.45mbs upstream, there is no reason to get an HD capable sling box unless your streaming in house.. and if you search the cutting edge forum here on dbstalk, you will see why Dish's unit is more limiting than a directv box and a separate slingbox...
By the way, I have had a classic since a month after the hit the market, and its awesome!!!!!

I have my 30/5 broadband service from IO, which is the fastest I've seen so far for $45. 5Mb up is a bit slow but should be plenty to stream to my iphone.
yea I may just go DTV, since DNW will almost definitely make me pay anyway for the integrated service. I need to keep reading and asking questions just a little bit longer, every time I think I have it weighed out something new come to light and Im weighing my option all over again....

On January 1, 2008 EchoStar split into two separate businesses, Dish Network Corporation and EchoStar Broadcasting Corporation.[2] DISH Network Corporation, the larger of the two resulting companies, focuses on US-based marketing of satellite television, while EchoStar Corporation runs a majority of the satellite fleet and other signal infrastructure.
Still the same company with 2 different divisions; that's why they share the same CEO. TomatOes, TomAtoes.....

They are not the same company, the information you copied and pasted even says that. Here's some more proof:
EchoStar’s divisions include Sling Media, EchoStar Technologies L.L.C., EchoStar Satellite Services, EchoStar International, and EchoStar Europe.
Dish Network is nowhere to be found. They are totally separate companies.
