the 1 1/2" pvc doesn't just slip over the 1 5/8" existing pole, so I'll have to slice it longways to make it fit.

...now wouldn't that expand the outside diameter of the approx 1.9 (1 7/8") pvc to probably the 2" it needs to "fill up" the 2" needed for the new Slimline bracket once you put it over the existing pole?

just looking at it from an engineering viewpoint.

I can work, and probably will work.
But for how long??
I'd get a piece of 2" pipe and self tap it to the old pipe, or if you do go for the PVC also self tap the dish head to the old metal pipe through the PVC.

what's ironic is that I actually have about a 12" length of the 2" OD metal pipe to put over the original pole at the top, but my ONLY concern about that is: will the 2" pole "crush" when you tighten the bracket on, since there is that space in between the two poles?

...i def understand I'd have to tap the two poles together.

I put a small piece of pvc pipe in the oven (I forget how hot and how long, I think it was less than ten minutes if that helps). Made it very pliable. Slipped over the metal pole nice and snug. Let it cool down, installed the dish, and it hasn't moved a bit in about two months. Currently in an RV park in Houston, TX so we've had a few bad storms.

With common sense, no. The ka/ku AZ/EL is made in such a way that the mast clamping part can only tighten a specific amount that that there will be some bending at the bolts. Hard to explain.

pretty cool thinking. Yeah you have had some rough weather lately!...from what I've seen.

makes very good sense!

Heat the PVC in the oven to 275 degrees and then slip it on. I have read of numerous people on RV boards doing this.
