I was curious to know the date of dishnetwork launched their sat 129 aka ceil2 ?
By the way why they call it ceil2 ? I heard they call it echostar5 as well.

The company they lease it from calls it Ciel II. It was launched on Dec 10 and we first saw channels from it on Feb 3.

E*5 is a different satellite that had been providing service (using the term loosely here) at 129° until a few weeks ago. Last week it started its move to 148° which is being discussed in another thread.

E*5 was owned by Echostar hence the name.

Bobabird, So you mean they will move all channels from 129 to 148 sooner or later. Wondering what about the dish customs have their dishes already pointed at 129 ?
It must be a big job for them.
But why dish want HD channels on 148 in the first place ?

But why dish want HD channels on 148 in the first place ?No, they moved all the HD off of E-5 and put them on Ceil II while both were at 129°, then they started moving E-5. For all intents and purpose E-5 was nearly dead. The speculation is that it is being moved to 148° as a "placeholder."

EchoStar has an about-dead bird at 148, E*1. E*2 went last year and E*1 is likely to depart us soon too.

E-1 is suppose to be moved to 77 W to help out E-8 after E-5 arrives at 148 W. E-2 went dead just before it was to be moved to 77 W so I am sure Dish is crossing its fingers that E-1 won't meet the same fate. As a side note E-5 was also known as Ciel-1 since it was flagged as a Canadian satellite at 129 W, a Canadian DBS slot.

So all programming migrated to Ciel2. Was anything else changed? Encryption? or anything of that nature? I have a customer who lost all service to 129 earlier this week. Curious why.

More details on the customer would be nice -

But yes - there is a new Encryption going out that requires new Smartcards for all but the very latest receivers (in terms of manufacture date).

he has some weird receiver I've never heard of. I think it has the 1000.2 dish? that sound right? (I think 1000.4 was eatern arc; its been awhile:). Not sure if he has a DP-44 or not, I know he was looking for one.
