View Full Version : PQ on locals is really crappy!

Has anyone noticed how bad the locals look on Dish? I was watching my local CBS and the PQ looks like streaming video from the internet while watching it on my 57" HDTV. On my 27" TV it's not as noticeable but still present.

E* has to be very careful with PQ because they could be painting themselves into a corner. While market research shows that most people are watching on smaller TV's, big screen sales are on the rise making PQ problems noticeable to more and more people. All I can say is that I hope the spot beams help.

Hey DirecTV owners! How is your local channel PQ?

I've noticed this as well. It's gotten particulary bad since mid-December. I wonder though if the fact the local channels for each market are now being broadcast on 2 separate channels and that is having an effect on the bandwidth. For example, Washington, DC's ABC affiliate can be found on both channel 700 and channel 8070. I have called DishNetwork about this and they have scheduled a tech to come out and look at the problem. The customer service rep. seemed to think that something might not have been grounded properly when the satellite was installed.

In any case, I hope the problem can be corrected. The poor picture quality is especially annoying when trying to watch football games.

Just because the atations are on 2 or even 3 different channels, they are not using up more transponder space - and that's what's important. The stations are beamed from whatever transponder they are on, and then the channels are mapped to whatever they are. In your case, the 700 block of local channels was where your locals were before the change. The 8070 block is where they are going to be exclusively after the transition. Right now, during the transition, they are on both channels.

For me, KWGN is in 235, 829, 8204. Eventually, when the dust settles, the local channels will all be in the 8000's and the 700's and 800's will disappear.
