what would happen if I disconneced the receiver from both power and satelite and waited for the free preview to end and then plug the receiver back in?

would I still get HBO?

Nope. That's not how the free previews work. What package a channel is part of is encoded in its signal. Directv doesn't modify everyone's authorizations (on their access cards) to receive the HBO package. Instead, HBO is encoded as being in a more basic package (Family, Choice, etc.) during the free preview. After the free preview, it is switched back to the HBO package. Since you are still only authorized to receive your base package, you won't receive HBO.

No idea why, but I'm still getting HBO.That's because today's the last day of the preview.

The last time we had a hbo preview, on the day after the end I went to an hbo channel and for a split second heard and saw video from the hbo channel then it went to the message saying channel not purchased.

If you shut off your receiver while the channel is in the clear (either showing the countdown with movie previews or during the first 5 minute preview that some movies have) and then turn it back on when it is in PPV mode, then you will hear a split second of the audio before the receiver realizes the signal is unauthorized.

I mean unplugging it.

You still won't get free HBO.
