Latest DVR-HD Box

Hi all. I am upgrading from a DVR-R16-300. I ordered the HD package. DTV has to come upgrade my dish and my DVR. They are coming on Thursday. They are charging me $99.00 for the the upgraded HD-DVR...seems like a good deal.

What do I need to know BEFORE they get here? Things like what is the best HD-DVR to request or hope to get? What about my multi switch? The one I have now needs two lines to run my R-16, is there something new that I should get or ask for?

This is all going to be hooked up to a new Samsung UN55B8000.

Any help would be great.

Hard to say what HD DVR you'll get. I depends on what the installer has available. Most likely it will be an HR22 or HR23, though.

You will get a new satellite dish with four outputs. How many total Receivers and DVRs will you have? You might not need a multiswitch at all if those four dish outputs handle your needs. If you need more than four tuners total, you'll get an Zinwell WB68 multiswitch.

You can ask about having SWM installed, which allows splitting of the cable and running only 1 cable into a DVR (But both tuners work). They may not have any, or may not want to install it, depending on your system/setup, but it can't hurt to ask.

Keep in mind if you dont get your locals from D* that you will need to call and ask for a AM21 for the ATSC tuners as only the HR20 has them built in and pretty unlikely you will get one. I was insistant and got a HR20 for my install but I also felt lucky to get it. If D* provides your locals and OTA means nothing to you then dont worry about it.
