It looks like some people are getting the Brrriiiip and some are not. There is a lot of discusion on this issue. So to get a better picture of where this might be the biggest issue, I thought I would create this poll for a visual of were the biggest issues are.

You forgot a key option: Not getting them at all.

Another poll that doesn't have "my options".
I have: H21, HR20, & HR21.
All can [do] have the brriipp, since it's from the MPEG-4 encoding [in the uplink].
Locals can have it more than nationals, but there are nationals with the problem also.

No BRRRIIIPPPP for me on any channel at any time. HR20-100S.

Yes I saw that but can figure out how to edit the poll to add that option.

I get it but it's not really bad and has gotten better lately.

I saw it once or twice over a month ago on one of my HR20's.

Bring your RV over here this morning and you'll see it on the locals. DirecTV is working on all of the locals [don't call us we know they're screwed up]

So far I have only seen it while watching a sports HD channel, which is most of what I watch anyway, but it has not bothered me at all really. It's pretty subtle most of the time.

Not seeing Brrrriiiiiippppp is not the same as not getting it. This isn't a localized problem it's on the national HDs. The only reasons someone hasn't seen/heard the problem is because they weren't watching the channel that had the problem at that time.

I guess if I keep my eyes closed I could say I'm never getting light from the sun.

I'm sure there are things that can occur that could cause it to only happen on a single receiver/home, but that's not the issue that is really being discussed.

At the request of the thread starter, I added an option to the poll.

"Well DUH", since it's a MPEG-4 [encoding] issue and SD is MPEG-2.

My bad. I assumed since it is in the "General Discussion" area instead of the "HD area" that it applied to all of us.

I see it occasionally on 245, 247, 248, usually once or twice for an hour show. Its a slight nuisance and a distraction but nothing more, as long as I know they are attempting to work out a solution thats fine with me. I've seen it on some other channels but its so few and far between that I chalk it up to normal. Since it even occasionally happens on my OTA locals when viewed through the tv tuner and not my HR, I can't blame the HR or D* for all of the occurences. Bottom line is occasional glitches can happen on any channel at any time. MPEG4 seems to be more susceptible I believe due to the resyncing of the audio stream when the channel's originating feed switches back from commercial break.

So much for "lossless" MPEG-4 encoding, eh?

It got really bad during the last few episodes of Chuck. Also happens a lot in 24, Bones, Lie to Me, and Vs. hockey (less here than the FOX ones).

"Your problems" aren't localized, but others are from their local HD.
As you know "the problem" is real and not related to the hardware on our end.
"How many times" must we post the same thing about where the source of the problems is?
Engineers from the DirecTV Broadcast Center know the problem. Some is from the feed to them and some is from how their encoders handle "the problem".

Ken S, you have my sympathy for your MLB programs. I don't watch them so "I don't see it" [but we both know it sucks]

My apologies for making light of the issue - I certainly wouldn't be happy if I were experiencing it. I hope they can find the issue with the encoding, wherever it is in the chain.

I get it once in awhile on one of my HR20 -700s. Haven't noticed it on the other one, but have noticed it on the H21 -200. Don't remember if it was MPEG-4 programming or not though.

Honestly I had seen these polls before but never really noticed or maybe did pay close enough attention. Then the other night it happened 3 or 4 times while I was watching Seinfeld on TBS on one of my HR20's.

All recievers, (H21 and HR21), all channels, all the time, been this way since I signed up for D* in May 0f 2008. Whoever does not see/hear it can bring their reciever over to my house and I will be happy to point it out for you :D

I'm sorry VOS, bad wording on my part when I wrote "localized" I mean to someone's home equipment...not the local channels.

I watch MLB Network every single night for at least a few hours. Definitely the worst of the worst when it comes to brrrrpppp.

I've read this forum for a long time and this Brrrrrrriiiiiiip issue is the most baffling to me. I did not know what it was until I watched a you tube video of one. My theater has 2 HR20/700 and 1 HR21/700 Each is plugged into a Tripp Lite voltage regulator. I have 2 dedicated power lines run to the back of the theater just for my components there. I use digital dolby out into an old(1997) but reference Yamaha DSP-A1, and full Signet home theater speaker setup (these are awesome imaging and sounding speakers). I'm the first to admit I watch way to much tv, and I have 3 pioneer plasma's in my theater room. Maybe it's my set up or I'm lucky but in all the tv watching from any of the receivers any channel national or over the air I have never hear this Brrrrrriiiiiiiiip

I am getting the BRRRIIIPPPP's on both on my HR20-100 and my HR21-100 mainly on locals but I see it more on my HR20-100 then I do on the HR21-100.
