Dish tech support told me this learning remote is not compatible with the 622 and you need the 722. I pointed out that it is advertised as a learning remote, so you should be able to take your existing 622 remote and learn its commands to individual keys on the 20.0. I was told that they can not guarantee that this will work, and they "don't support it." In case of problems, they would not be able to help you with troubleshooting. I pointed out that this sounds like a bureaucratic policy, not technical. Didn't get an answer to that! I suspect the aim is to get customers to upgrade to the 722. Is anyone using the 20.0 or 21.0 remotes with the VIP622? Any trouble getting one, or using it?
It should have all standard dish commands stored in it's memory chip. It won't learn the channel out, stored DVR memory etc. that the 722 was designed to do but it should still work as a remote control.

It will work with the 622. The model they were talking about is the one its designed for which is the 722k, not the 722, but it will work with any of the three. It's just not on the list of compatible remotes for the 622 and 722, the agent was just going by the information they had available. As for there being some aim behind it to get you to upgrade, you're reading too much into it.

So why not promote this advanced remote for the 622/722? If you build a "better mousetrap" wouldn't you want to sell as many as you can?
Maybe they figure there's not enough profit involved to manufacture larger numbers of these, and too many headaches for tech support trying to explain how to program it. Just a hunch. But I think it would build customer loyalty to tell users.. hey- we have this great new remote. Want one?
