Well, folks, Dish Network did update their web page (http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/customercare/charlie_chat/), so I putting this up....

The next Charlie Chat is Monday, June 9th at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT on channel 101. It will be interesting to see what Charlie announces that we will already know.

I assume that the Chat room will be up and running.

He better announce a start date and price for an HD package.

If there is a Game 7 in hockey however, Charlie will have to wait! :)

He'll likely talk about Allbritton. For some reason the chatter has been the HD announcements will be in the July chat. But I too hope that HDNet will be around sooner rather than later.

This is a message I sent to DISH for the chat. I will be interested to see if they answer it on the show or even e-mail.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is going on with HD (high defination) in general. The 921 has been postponed much like the 721. It doesn't look good for DISH to talk about something for so long with no results.

Also where are the new HD channels that where to be coming? (HD Sports, HD Movies, & ESPN HD) With the annocement from Direct TV and there HD package starting July 1 it looks like they will be the leader in HD.

Where is DISH in taking the step to stay the leader in HD? Just saying that things are coming doesn't mean you are the leader. Some realistic dates and packages with pricing would be nice.

Basiclly what I'm saying let's get some hard core dates and prices for all of the programming and equipment, that you can actually keep!

They announced 50 HD channels in the future using the SuperDish coming out in July.

Jacob,

What they announced and what they can do are two different things.

Being a dealer yourself, wouldnt you think you would have a SKU by now for the SuperDish?

The SuperDish idea is a flawed technology that won't work as they announced it due to the fact the satellite they mentioned is at an inclinced orbit meaning it will bees a special motorized LNB to track its arc.

There will be no SuperDish in July.

If Charlie was serious about HD he would give us EXACT DATES of when we can expect to see the new channels.

In my opinion all's he did make these announcements to pump up his stock price so him and a few other Echostar execs could sell some of their stock. (which IS what happened)

The only fluff I like is on two pieces of bread with peanut butter, thank you very much. :)

Sounds like I am not the only one, that is now frustrated. Sorry Scott, I hung around on *E as long as I could stand it. E* is simply not listening anymore, and I simply got fed up of more promises of, to be delivered soon (aka) a year from now. Lack of equipment feature upgrades, programming (unless you are interested in home shopping and public interest channels), and promised new equipment, simply does nothing for me anymore. I have only been through this from the 5000 on.

Even if E* catches up to *D, I absolutely would not install a Super Dish. My limit is 3 DBS locations or C-Band. After that, it's mute point, and now that the FCC and SHVIA have slapped E* back into place, I doubt little improvement on E* promises, unless Ergen resigns or sells. (speculation)

The only reason why I said that is that I think there is more of a chance of this Dish coming out in July vs. his other receivers that he keeps delaying is that he announched the addition of a number of local channels in 3rd and 4th quarters in which the SuperDish would be needed to do so.

Even if E* delivers in July, magically gets it all to work on a SuperDish, your going to watch it on a do nothing 6000?

I have an idea for the chat. Can we organize some type of e-mail that can convince Charlie to carry Trio? (Well not just Trio, but a couple other channels that may be of interest.)

Only thing the SuperDish would be good for now is provide a path for future expansion. Yes you cannot get 105 or 121 with it, but if you are required to put it in now they can use it when they do get 105 and 121 in place. It looks like they are trying to get ahead of the curve, they had Dish300 out then had to pay to get people upgraded to Dish500. They want you to have superdish installed in advance.

Jacob S

I thought they were going to use what was at 105 now until they get the other satellite launched to 105 fall of 2004 and still have a satellite launched at 121 later this year. How are they supposed to get all those local markets up without extra space? Spotbeams? Is it extra space they already have now what they are going to use and do they actually have enough space?

Mike123abc
06-07-03, 08:23 PM
It looks like they are just putting stuff on 110 and filling up the spare space. If they do not get 121 up soon they are going to really be out of space.

Jacob S
06-07-03, 08:38 PM
I kept hearing that they were going to get 121 up and use that to get these locals up then I heard 105 could be used then 110 until 121 goes up.

Channels needed: Fox Sports West 2 on sportspak, College Sports TV, Comcast Sports Southeast, and Thriller Max!!!

Problem. Why E*'s price per pak are no longer in reality, but enjoy your infinite number of home shopping and community interest channels so we can advertise we offer 130 channels... Then there's that annoying problem of no OpenTV or Wink enabled HD products. I call it "visionware", promises, delivery coming soon, maybe. Old -gone- sub, heard it too many times.

I have noticed Dish in the past promise to carry certain channels and not go through withtheir promises and then they quit promising like they used to and just turn on the new channels when they do or seem to be more careful about their promises because they dont want people griping as they did before.

Why do they continue to take market share away from cable and directv? If they are really that bad>

The growth rate of DBS is no where near what it once was. That is why even Ergen stated on Charlie Chat they will have to do more to prevent churn and offer products and service that entice people to stay. So far I have seen no sign of this effort with the exception of the PVR508, which E* is practically having to give away, one wonders why, and how many will stay on 150 once the promo ends, or stay at all. Though *D's growth is slightly less than E*, *D has far less churn, so who will actually have more growth long term.

Wanted: PBS Kids, Trio, College Sports TV,.

Did you check that new Charlie Chat page on the Dish site? It only displays the rebroadcast schedule in PDF format! WTF is the reason for that? It isn't graphics or anything cute, it's just a two-column list. Slow and stupid!

College Sports TV is a channel they must add, to keep me longer than the year I've agreed to with Dish. Just as I left Comcast Digital when they wouldn't add ESPN Classic or Fox Sports World, I will leave Dish for DirecTv, if they don't add CSTV.

I emailed Comcast Sports Southeast about any possibility of their channel being added to either D* or E* and the response I got was that neither DBS provider has shown any interest in the channel. To me, the response at least showed that Comcast would be willing to provide the channel to D* or E*. Who knows what they'd try to charge, but apparently neither company has even tried to negotiate.

Status of the DISHPlayer PTV fee?
Why did the last DP software change remove usability and a feature? Namely, no EPG for Dish customers who can't see 110, and no more ability to generate a vertical schedule of a single channel by searching for the channel name.

Wow, it's the 9th already. As always the chat room (http://chat.dbstalk.com/) will be open. There is a small chance I might not be able to make it tonight, depending on what time I get home from finalizing the deal on my truck. I hope I'll be able to make it though, the chat is always a good time. Hope to see ya tonight! :hi:

Echostar, please add:

1) College Sports TV
2) FSW2 added to the Multi-Sport package
3) GOL TV was promised a few months ago to be added to
AT-100 or AT-150. Where is it?

Thanks.

Goal TV is uplinked already to ch 407 for about a week or so...(just not available to "mere-mortal" Subscriber yet)

However, being uplinked is a good indication of the channel being available to Subscribers at that EPG location...

And from what i recall - Goal TV will be available to Subscribers sometimes this month...
