Hello people..
Do you know this:
I know that on 4900 UHF receiver - both UHF and regular IR remotes works...
Does anyone know the same situation for 4000 receiver? - on a 4000, do both UHF and regular IR remotes are supposed to work or ONLY UHF remote works, but non-UHF doesn't?
And if both types of remotes are supposed to work on a 4000 (same as on 4900), what is the exact procedure then to get non-UHF remote to work on a 4000?
Thanks in advance...

I believe that on the 4000 only the UHF controls the reciever. The 4000 reciever doesn't have an IR sensor. I have seen a website a few years ago showing how to add an IR sensor to the reciever.

It's easier now to find a junk IR model and switch the front panels.

DishDude - hehe - i see...
Some who has a 4000 there (and has some non-UHF remote as well): Can you please try to control the 4000 with non-UHF remote (and let me know the results here) :)

An IR remote will have no effect on a 4000 because, as nuts4scuba said, the 4000 has no IR sensor. This is also true of the 2000 Deluxe, early production 5000* (http://ekb.dbstalk.com/6), and JVC D-VHS. The carltonbale site also has instructions for adding IR to these receivers.
The standard 2000 is IR only. Later 5000s have UHF and IR as do the 4700/4900, 6000, 501/508 and 721.

You do realize if your receiver died you could buy Buy the system warranty, $2 a month, wait 31 days tell them your receiver died somehow and they will advance exchange it for a 4900 for shipping only $15 or free if you have cC autopay. Its a much newer nicer receiver.

Thats good, I just thought I would explain how the system works. The warranty is a GREAT deal! in any case:)

Bob - this is NOT what will always happen. Sometimes it does, but I had a customer this past month, where they even tried to get them to exchange their 4000 for a refurbed 47/4900. The CSR even said most likely it would be a 47/4900, but would make NO guarantee that it would not be a 4000. Sure enough, they got stuck with ANOTHER 4000 - my customer was NOT happy!
