I'm sure this has been discussed a billion times, but cannot do a good search on it. Can a direct tv dish be used with an dish netowrk rcvr/smart card to get dish network?

Thanks!

No i think you need a dish network dish to get Dish network programming I plus the orbit slots are different

Yes a Directv dish can be used to receive Dish Network programming it is the same as the old Dish 300 dish. You can only pick up one satellite unlike the DISH 500 that looks at both 119 &110. If re-aimed at the 119 satellite you could successfully subscribe to the AT-50 package. If you are a new DISH Network subscriber you can get two receivers, the dish 500 and installation free, just contact a dealer.

Thanks. Would I be able to get distant networks and superstations on the single 119 satellite?

Short answer, yes in most cases it will work fine.

Long answer,

What kind of DirecTV dish do you have right now? Standard 18" single/dual LNB, elliptical 18X24" or the phase3? If it's a standard 18" you can point it to any one of Dish's satellites (preferably 119), if it's the elliptical, you can point to 119 and 110 if you put a standard LNB where the sat c LNB gets mounted, if it's the newer phase3 dish, then your out of luck since it has a built in sat b/c combiner and multiswitch.

If you sub to AT50 or AT100 looking at only 119 would be okay, but for AT150 and AEP you'll need to also look at 110.

My internet connection is really slow tonight, when I first sent the reply there were no others.

Yes, distant nets and supers are on 119.

Steve,

Actually only NYC and LA distant nets on are 119, Denver, Atlanta, Chicago and Dallas (which is no longer available to new subs as a Distant local) are only on 110.

Thanks for the help. It's a standard 18inch dish. Are there any dish rcvrs that are not compatible with this size?

No, just point it at the 119 slot from anywhere within the CONUS footprint. DISH (legacy) and DirecTV use the same DBS downlink
band, circular polarization, and switching voltages. DishPro and
DPP are different enough to be incompatible with DirecTV.

You can use any DISH receiver, old or new.

Are you are talking about the mount only?

If so:
When I bought my original dish system the retailer gave me a single lnb Sony dish. I have since upgrade to a dish 500 and another dual lnb dish at 61.5. I did have to replace the mount with the mount from the dish dish because the pipe was too small to handle the dish

If not:
never mind

What I would like to see is a way to mount a dish like you do a sony dish. It has an adjustable clamp to where you can put it on different sized poles. Is there a way of adjusting the other dishes to do this? I would like to be able to use a dish500 with other sized poles on an adjustable clamp for when I travel.
