View Full Version : February 1st, 2002: Raise In Dish Programming Prices??
There is news that somebody posted in the DBSForums. It says that Dish will raise rates $1 on all premium movie packages and the AT50, AT100, AT150 as of February 1, 2002.
I wonder what this will do to the Digital Dynamite plan with the Dish PVR and the AT150. I would assume the price will go up a buck too, but there is on Dish's website a price guarantee till May, 2003. If the rates go up and they increase then price of the package, there goes that guarantee down the drain.

Dan at DBS Forums pointed out to me that the Digital Dynamite is a lease program, so its not subject to increases. However, I bet there will be quite a few Dish subs who will not be happy about this rate increase. For example, you are a AT150 sub and sub to both HBO The Works and Showtime Unlimited. This would mean a 3 dollar increase in your monthly bill ($1 for the AT150, $1 for the HBO The Works, and $1 for Showtime Unlimited).
Mix that and the deletions of Fox owned RSNs, ABC Family, and possibly ESPN Classics with nothing added to replace the channels and Charlie will have his work cut out for him in terms of public relations and subscriber loyalty and satisfaction.
I'm on a digital home plan with a AT150, so there should be no price increases until May, 2003.
Pure speculation so far. The original poster gave no source to back it up.
The person who posted the info at DBSForums also posted a few months ago that sports on the supers would be blacked out starting that weekend (whenever that was) and that never happened yet.

If you can't afford the progarmming, please go back to cable. That type of complaining led to the demise of cable and now they are trying to catch up to the DBS systems with their digital cable.
I hope the prices aren't going up to support the additions of the locals cause I can't get them anyways (not that I wouldn't mind paying for them if I was able to get them). I wish they would add more programming like "Goodlife TV", "MTV-X", "MTV-Soul" or other standard programming anyone can recieve with a package.
