The South Carolina Legislature adjourned for the year without imposing an additional tax on DBS service.
Earlier in its session, during consideration of a budget bill, the South Carolina House of Representatives defeated an amendment that would have imposed a "license" tax on satellite TV. During its recent consideration of the budget, the state Senate also chose not to add the provision.
The tax would have been added to an existing tax on DBS service. During the legislative session in South Carolina, the Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association and its member companies, DirecTV and EchoStar, lobbied against the proposal.
