Hi there...

I just purchased a new H21-200 from my local Best Buy 3 weeks ago. This H21 is replacing an H20 that was purchased from DirecTV.

I am almost positive that the H20 was a leased reciever, but I have yet to recieve a box to send the reciever back to DirecTV.

Can any of the mods help me out here, who knows, I may be incorrect and this H20 was actaully a purchased reciever.

Or, what could I do, I do NOT want to get charged for "keeping" a leased reciever.

Just call and ask them if it is leased or owned. If it's leased you should get a box in a couple of weeks after disconnecting it.

They may or may not want it back. You can call and ask them to send you a box and return shipping label. If they do not, then figure they do not want it. But..... retain it just in case in six months they come looking for it. I still have two H20's in my attic...... Will probably for a few years too.

There are a few purchased H20's out there but not many. The other thing is that the H20 is an older model and even if leased they may not want it back. I'd be hesitant to do anything other than hold on to it for the time being. Sometimes it takes DirecTV a few weeks to catch up with swaps, upgrades, etc., and you don't want a surprise bill for a non-returned receiver popping up on your account. They're still sending H20's out as replacements so it's not like they've totally given up supporting the unit.

Call in, double check. Check your online 'recent activity' plenty of times.

I have checked my account, and it is deactivated. The lady told me "if it is a leased reciever, we will be sending out a box, if not, will won't send anything."

I am guessing this is going in a closet for a year, just to make sure.

Can I use the OTA without sat service? It would be good for a guest bedroom.

If you got the H20 prior to March 1, 2006 it is owned. If after that, it is likely leased.
