I have the newest HD DVR that Dish Network puts out. Can't remember the Model Number SORRY. I installed a New Sony STR-DA3400ES receiver. I ran the HDMI cable from the SAT Receiver to the AV Receiver. The picture looks great. Also run with an HDMI from av receiver to TV. But NO audio is being sent to the av receiver. I called Sony and was on the phone and e support for hours. They can't find a problem with the receiver. also the xbox 360 works great.
Called Dish and that hopeless. They want to sent out a new receiver. It may fix the problem but have anyone else had this problem. The HDMI has video but no audio?

Have you been through the Dolby Digital sound settings?

Menu->System Setup->Dolby Digital

You're not inspiring confidence by not being able to remember the model number. What one person thinks is "newest" may be one or two iterations forward or back to someone else. That's why they give them distinct model numbers.

There have been similar problems reported so you might want to search or browse around the threads here a bit. If you have a ViP722k, you have the newest and the only one that's not likely to be a refurb. If you have sound actually on the TV, you probably ought to run the cable from the Dish box to the TV just to see if it works. But it's highly possible the Dish box has a problem, so if they want to send you a new one, let them.

Yes i have the VIP722 DVR. Thanks for the advise but I ran the HDMI to the TV also and had no audio but video looks great. I was hoping Dish had something i needed to switch on for Audio to run thru the HDMI but it seems like no luck. I saw several threads on no video & no audio thru HDMI but none only having video and no audio.
thanks again.

I called Dish three different times or two days trying to find a way to just change a setting and the HDMI would send audio. THey had me turn everything off, unplug things over and over , scroll thru the setting. But still nothing worked. THat's why I now posting to the professionals. The Receiver is the VIP722 DVR.

Are you sure you have a ViP722 and not a 722K? I ask only because you said you have their newest, and the 722K would be newer than the 722.

In any event... My ViP722 does provide audio via HDMI to my TV, and I couldn't get it not to. I had to turn off the speakers in my HDTV to avoid getting duplicated echoing between my TV and my audio receiver.

So I've got the opposite problem as you it would seem.

The front of my receiver only says VIP 722 DVR.
So from what i understand you get audio and no video. I found lot of suggestion in my Sony manual on change to make to get video to show.

I presently have my Sat Receiver set to Dolby ditigal /PCM. I have my receiver set to auto so it will read all signals. I'm going to try only PCM then Only Dolby didtigal and see what happens.

Have you settings to convert the resolution on your tv or audio receiver? I was able to select one that made the video work. Hopefully that will help you.

Also i found on my receiver there's a setting to only send the HDMI to the TV with Video and no Audio. It's a setting labled TV+AMP or AMP. The AMP will only allow the audio receiver to play the audio. TV+AMP will let audio thru to both.

Sorry for the confusion...

I'm getting video and audio. It's just that I don't want the audio because my receiver is not an HDMI receiver... so I run the optical cable for my audio. So the HDMI carrying the audio is actually a problem for me.

In any event, I'm not able to duplicate your problem because I haven't been able to get my Dish receiver to not send the audio via HDMI.

Could be an incompatibility in your model TV. Apparently not all HDMI device are created equal, and the "standard" has left a little bit to be desired.

If it's not providing Audio over HDMI when hooked up to the TV or your AVR and you've done the reboots etc. I would say it is almost certainly a bad Vip722, let them replace it.

If you have a 722 and not a 722k, I'll tell you a short version of my experiences.

When my HD was installed the 722 provided lasted less than week. The one they shipped worked fine. Then, in helping Echostar Engineering with the DMA-specific audio dropout problem, they wanted my 722 because they couldn't reproduce the problem. But they told me to not give up my working 722 until I got a replacement that worked. The first replacement indeed did not work. The second did.

In reading the posts here, while I wouldn't say that a 722 has a 50/50 chance of working. But it's not unusual to get one that doesn't work. And some here have gone through more than two before getting one that works.

Of course, this Forum overemphasizes the problems as many people come here because they have a problem and then stay for the camaraderie.
