So since my market (54601) moved to MPEG-4 channels (or whatever they are), I'm ONLY getting the HD channel when I set the receiver up, which is annoying with an SD TV. I still have the 72.5 dish but didn't include it in the receiver setup. The other receivers in my house have the SD locals. I assume these are still coming from the 72.5 satellite? Is there a way to get the SDs with the new setup from D*?
It might be the setting in your Directv receiver, try this
Go in the setup, then Dispaly then you will see Guide HD channels, if the option is on Hide SD duplicates, put it back on "Show SD duplicates"
Hope it helps

Redo the satellite setup with slimline5 and 72.5. SD locals should come in.
They will go down at one point though.

I guess that was my main question/issue. Will I get the SD channels when the 72.5 goes away? If not, that sucks. I don't see why that would be, though.
Show SD duplicates is turned on.

When 72.5 goes away, so will the SD locals. If you have an MPEG-4 receiver and a SD 4:3 TV, then you'll have the same "picture" if you set up the receiver for a 4:3 TV and use crop format for your local channels. This will give you the same image [size] as you would get off the old SD channels.
Why waste the bandwidth for both SD & HD for the same market? Simply using the format/resolution features of the receiver will give you the same image.

I've tried that but it looks worse. The picture is cropped more than a standard SD picture and it really looks like crap.
Getting rid of SD locals is really lame. A lot of shows still aren't in HD.
D* is really annoying me with some of the BS moves and/or bugs they keep coming out with.

Maybe there is some setting change that would improve what you're getting.
Getting rid of SD locals is really lame. A lot of shows still aren't in HD. The world is moving to digital TV and HD. If you were to get these channels with an antenna, you'd be forced to change in a couple of weeks. The change is inevitable.

Digital <> HD. Moving to digital is not a big deal, and certainly does not mean that SD is going away.

Hence why I used "and" as being two different things. Depending on the station, they may also drop the SD and use their HD feed to supply their [downres] sub-channel SD feed.
