All of a sudden this morning I have a "searching for signal on tuner 1" problem on my HR20-700...testing signal strength I get:

Sat 103(c):

Tuner 1 all 0's
Tuner 2 normal

Sat 101:

Tuner 1 odd transponders are 0, even are "sort of" normal
Tuner 2 is all normal

Swapping cables did not change it, replacing BBC did not fix it...any ideas?

Btw I just added a second box (HR23-700) but did not mess with the coax connections in the closet for the HR20-700...I do not have an SWM since I only have two boxes...I have 4 lines from the dish (I think it is a slimline-3?)...

EDIT: Maybe this is normal but I noticed that if I swap the cables and then go back in and check signal strength the problem with the odd transponders now is on the even ones on 101...it alternates each time I do it...

Check all connections. Power down both IRDs.

Swap the tuner inputs and see if the problem shifts to tuner 2. You said you don't have SWM, but is there a multiswitch in that closet? Or do each of the DVRs have two lines run directly from the dish?

So I checked all connections with IRDs powered down...no change...swapping tuner inputs does not change it (still 771 on tuner 1)...I do not have a multiswitch and cables come from dish directly into closet where it is then connected to the 2 coax running to each box...

I even tried connecting the 2 coax from the roof that work with my HR23 to the problematic HR20 and I still get the same problem...

Should I just put the HR23 in the HR20's place and see what happens? If both tuners work then that should mean I have a bad tuner (suddenly) on the HR20, right?

Well guys...I let it sit for a good 15 minutes this time (instead of 2-3) and now it works...I've had the box since the HR20's came out and never had this happen...weird...

Thanks again...

That is a "feature" of the hr20-700, I think. It has been well-documented in several forums here and usually occurs after a rain storm in my case. D* apparently introduced this "feature" about 18 months ago in one of their NRs. :D

This happened to my HR20-700 last month after a hard rain. As of a week later, it never corrected. A repair tech came out and replaced the LNB... no fix. Then he replaced the cables... no fix. Then he replaced the B-band converters... no fix. Then he replaced my HR20 with an HR22 (so long Star Wars Trilogy in HD)... no fix. Then he replaced my dish entirely. It worked.

So basically I have an entirely new system.
