I go with other; since I see no evidence of a similar poll in the DirecTV sectors, I dub thee TROLL.

Agreed. I'm happy with them. Biggest issue I have is they do a bad job of telling people when they have free previews.

Does having my dog chew up the remote count as equipment failure?:D

Dish needs to lax its hard-edge stance on retrans consent. Fisher and now Sinclair. Uck!

You should have added a category for DISH's ridiculous 24 month commitments:p

Hrm, i didnt mean it to sound like i'm insulting dish.

maybe a mod should change it to "what should dish do to stop hemerraging customers." or the like and make it multiple choice.

Maybe i should see what everyone thinks the catagories should be and make a new poll.

Other: just about every catagory applies. And you left out the Indian CSRs.

maybe a mod should change it to "what should dish do to stop hemerraging customers." or the like and make it multiple choice. That also assumes a negative slant toward DISH ... if you're looking for "What is DISH's biggest problem?" that might work.

DISH isn't losing customers more than they have over the past few years ... and DirecTV is losing customers at about the same count. The difference is in gaining customers - replacing those who are lost. So if you're looking for solutions try "What can DISH do to attract customers?"

Dish and Direct both have 24 month commitments.

That would be furthering the false premise that I see people saying every quarter.

That facts are that both Dish AND DirecTV are losing large numbers of customers every quarter. Something to the tune of around 3/4 of a million for each company!

Where Dish has been lagging DirecTV is that DirecTV has been adding a million or more to offset the loss of the 3/4 million... while Dish has only been adding almost (but slightly less) and thus a net customer loss for Dish.

To say "Dish is hemorrhaging customers" as if that is unique to them is a false premise.

I've said in other threads that I don't know what Dish can do to add more subs like DirecTV has done... but it is clear that BOTH companies need to do more for customer retention as BOTH companies are losing a large amount of customers on a regular basis.

Unbundle the Platiumum tier. Nothing good in it but HDMOVIES. As soon as my 3 free months of HBO is over I'm bailing. Or reduce it to $5 a month.

I have talked to my mother in the past about Dish Network, but she didn't have LOS. She moved and signed up for DirecTV because she kept getting things in the mail from them. (Since I'm the one who will have to help her, mostly over the phone, and I don't know DirecTV receivers/remotes at all, I did get her switched to Dish Network before her DirecTV install and she's very happy with Dish.)

Based on reading here and elsewhere, it sounds like Dish Network retailers make cold calls to get people to sign up, which is fostering bad feelings and lawsuits. Apparently if you mail people often enough to sign up, it will work for some--and without the irritation and lawsuits to boot.

I get something in the mail from DirecTV almost every week... wanting me to sign up.

I also get a couple of cold-calls from people claiming to be Dish or DirecTV (depends on their mood apparently) wanting to sign me up.

I'm not sure the mail is from DirecTV, and I know the calls aren't actually from either Dish or DirecTV.

DirecTV prohibits its retailers from making outbound sales calls, though some still do (and these are usually the LAST people you'd want to buy from). The prohibition came in the wake of the FCC fine from around 2006.

As for the mailers/inserts, those are typically from large DirecTV retailers.
