I currently have my HD-DVR - HR21-100 connected to a wireless ethernet bridge, that connects to my wireless DSL modem this works fine. My question is this. I want to add an HD receiver in my bedroom located upstairs. I want to buy the DTV Powerline networking kit to connect to my network. Can I run the connection from my HD receiver in my bedroom through the Powerline Ethernet downstairs to the second port in the back of my HD-DVR or should I run it to my Wireless Ethernet bridge that is downstairs next to my HD-DVR?

If you connect it through your wireless bridge that is downstairs next to the Hd-DVR where is the other bridge going to be connected? You don't need the router to make any connections but if you would like DOD or MediaShare then you need the router communicating at some point in the bridge.

Hopefully I can explain this a little better here is my current setup and what I want the HD box in my room to do

Current
HR21 > Buffalo Ethernet Wireless Bridge > DSL Wireless Modem

What I want to do
HD Box (In Bedroom) > Powerline Ethernet > HR21 (Port 2) or Wireless Bridge.

You should plug the adapter into your router as opposed to the "through" port on the DVR.

With your current setup where is the other end of the Buffalo bridge?

It looks like to me that it is plugged into the HR21, it is wireless.

Rob, im sorry for the confusion but I don't see an advantage to changing the setup. What in particular are you looking to accomplish? If you post what your looking to do it would give a better idea. All I can see i the setup your looking for is to bypass the modem which you can do. You don't need modems or routers to network 2 receivers. But there will be no DOD or Mediashare on any STB without a link to the internet.

Movieman what I want to do is just connect the HD receiver in my bedroom to my home network, so when MVR is released, I can use the HD receiver to play items off my HD-DVR.

Does your wireless modem have an empty port?

Yes my wireless dsl modem/router has empty ports so does my wireless etherrnet bridge. Should I connect it to my wireless dsl modem/router or wireless ethernet bridge. My wireless ethernet bridge connects my HR21 to my wireless dsl modem/router to access the internet.

Now this makes sense. You don't need to bypass the router/modem to get any current or future services. What I can say is that you can network 2 STB's without the need for a router or modem but if you bypass the internet/pc then DOD and MediaShare will not work.

Plug it into the wireless modem and the other powerline adapter into the receiver.

I think I will connect the HD receiver in my bedroom to my Wireless Ethernet Bridge via the PowerLine Ethernet kit since that's where my HR-21 is connected to access the internet. My wireless bridge receives an IP address from my wireless dsl modem and then assigns IP addresses to any device attached to it.

That will work so that you keep all the services that are currently available like DOD and Mediashare. (not sure if you are using them much).

As long as you have the ethernet bridge or the powerline kit connected to your modem/pc you will keep everything going. As far as other services there are other sections of this forum that may be of more help.
