View Full Version : Couple SWM LNB signal questions

Recently upgraded my 5LNB slim-line LNB to a SWM3 LNB and have a couple questions.
First of all, looking at the sat signals, other then 101, 99 & 103 I now see: SATELLITE: SWM. What is that?
Anyway, my main question is, when I had the 5LNB & WB68 I was gettting 95-100 signals on virtually all xponders on all 5 sats. I am still getting 95-100 on all 101 xponders but am seeing the following on 99(c) & 101(c):
99C:
1-8: 92-95-83-91-89-91-81-91
9-16 86-88-81-89-89-91-NA-NA
17-32: All N/A
103C:
1-8: 95-96-87-95-88-95-85-95
9-16: 87-92-87-95-88-94-NA-NA
17-32: All N/A
Is there room for some "professional tweaking" here or should I just leave it alone? ("Professional tweaking" = someone other then DirecTV :) )
What I can't understand is, why, since I am getting 95's on some xponders I don't get 95's on ALL xponders seeing as they are all on the same sat in the same location.

It shows the signals on all 8 SWM channels. Any number of them can also be 0. Nothing to worry about.

Some LNBS give slightly different reading or sit just a tiny bit different in the LNB arm. But unless you are having issues I wouldn't bother realigning.

Thanks .. There are no issues, but I was thinking of realignemnt to reduce possible "rain fade."

I just installed and aligned a SWM5 (same as yours with the addition of the 110 and 119 sats), and have almost exactly the same readings (I aligned on 103 with a meter), so I dont think you are going to do any better than you currently have. FWIW, the difference between 70 signal reading and 90 signal reading will make a difference in rain fade, peaking one or two points higher on a signal of 88 already, isnt going to make any difference you will notice.

FWIW: there is AGC on the SWM output that will prolong the onset of rain fade for a bit longer.

Thanks. I was only concerned because when I had the "regular" 5LNB up there with the WB68 most everything was 95-100 on all xponders. I thought I may have bumped something.

Not to cause any concern, your numbers look fine. D* policy is any time the lnb is removed from the dish, it must be fine tuned, but that is for us. Your numbers look good, make sure the lnb bolts are tight, there is a slight amount of play in there that can be the difference in a few points up or down.
But like I said, good numbers there.
