I don't have many dish receives installed in motel headends, but recently I have gotten two calls because the receivers didn't automatically update their software.
The receivers, models 1000 and 2700, were using 613xxxx, and the new version required is 717xxxxx.
After checking the receiver functions, and calling for an account check and a re-hit, the third technician at Dish finally came up with the reason for the loss of service.
So if you get some calls about loss of service on dish receivers, tell them they may need a software update. Both of my customers asked why they had to pay for a service call, since the "problem" was caused by Dish. I explained that they had older receivers that didn't automatically update, and therefore required a manual update procedure. In reality, I think that if the update screen had had the choice "update without my permission" flagged, the receivers would have been OK.
Will I go around and reset the update flags to prevent this problem? Don't think so.
