Been using the same security software for awhile now, and wondering what's considered to be the best 3-4 FREE programs. Might be time to upgrade/switch, or I may have missed something. I am running Windows 7. This is what I'm currently running:

Avira Anti Virus
Spybot Search & Destory
Spyware Blaster
Windows Defender
Threatfire
Windows Firewall

I like AVG Free Antivirus

Does it work with Windows 7 yet?

I used it on 64 bit for a while until Norton came out with their beta. I am using Norton Internet Explorer 2009 beta for Windows 7 in both flavors, 32 and 64 bit (on different machines, in case that isn't obvious). :)

I thought Norton was just a 14 day beta? I have a Norton Subscription and want to use it, but thought it was expiring.

Last I tried it, W7 did not recognized AVG free. I think it worked, but I kept getting a nag message from W7 saying nothing was installed.

I have found free Avast to be better than both AVG and Avira. It scans email as well which Avira does not. It also has a smaller resource footprint.

I haven't reached the end of my subscriptions yet. But I have a 5 PC license that should work too, so I need to discuss this with them. One of mine will expire this weekend. It works as it does with Vista.

I got it to work with 64 bit, not nagging messages. I just installed it...it didn't seem to impact my PC at all either. But since I have a 5 PC subscription for Norton I had to switch.

I like AVAST! free version.
Robust and effective without the Norton bloat.

The code used by AVG to report its status to the Windows Security Center is out of date for Win 7. You can still use AVG safely, I do, and tell this system not to monitor the status.

I use Avast Professional (same as free version except you can schedule daily, weekly or whatever scans to take place automatically). Works great with Win 7, Vista or XP. I also use their WHS version on my home server. Works really good.
