From SkyReport (http://www.mediabiz.com/):At long last, AT&T this week officially launched its CruiseCast in-car satellite service, boasting 22 video channels and 20 audio channels.

According to the telco, the service, which is part of a joint venture between AT&T and Raysat Broadcasting, includes content from USA, CNN Mobile, SciFi, Adult Swim, Discovery, Lifetime, Animal Planet, ESPN and others and costs $28 per month. The hardware itself retails for $1,299 and includes an antenna and an in-car "set-top box" device.

So far, about 600 retailers have signed on to to carry the CruiseCast hardware and sell subscriptions, and car makers are reportedly considering offering the system as a factory installed option on some new vehicles.I want a 50" screen in my dash! :p

Good idea but i have no need for it, we have a tv in our "family" car but its just for the kids whileo n trips. They can watch dvds on it im not paying anouter $30 a month for that. But im sure there are people who will love it.

I hope that any video screen is relegated to the back seat. It's bad enough that drivers are texting, reading the newspaper, putting on makeup etc; in essence doing everything but paying attention to the road.:nono2::mad:

Personally, having directly know of 2 accidents involving SUVs that had DVD players in them with back seat screens (both cases occurred when the driver was distracted by the noise of the audio and passengers (kids) reacting to the movies)....no thanks....

Between gals doing their makeup, folks texting on their Crackberries, audio systems running at 200 watts per speaker with a subwoofer, and talking GPS systems....there are already plenty of accident-causing distractions out there.

I love technology and gadgets...but....

I suspect they are targeting families with children to provide content for the kids in the backseat, which appears to be somewhat reasonable to me. We take trips about every other weekend which means we're in the car with the kids for 6 plus hours at a shot, and with changing content, this does make a lot of sense. Does anyone know if the content is HD or SD?
