The manual with the HDVR2 leaves a lot to be desired. The installer told me I only needed to hook up the Svideo and TOS link cables to my receiver and I would get all sound over TOS link. Well I don't get any sound. I know the cable and receiver are good.
I went into the setup on the HDVR2 and enabled Doby Digital and even tried selecting a show in Doby Digital and making sure that audio feed was selected. I can hook up RCA cables and get sound no problem.

What am I missing?

Can't get remote to control my Kenwood VR-3090 receiver either.

The optical feed should work. The receiver should detect a PCM signal irregardless of whether its DD or not. Some receivers are confused if RCA and optical cables are connected to the same input selection.

On the remote be sure to go through the configuration for both TV and receiver. I know the configuration I wanted which was to power both TV and receiver and control the volume on the receiver was not possible. The other choice which controls the volume on the receiver didn't power on the TV. I settled for powering on both and I use the receiver remote to control the receiver's volume.
I agree on the manual much of it needs simplification. Fewer words would make it clearer.

The Kenwood receivers are funky. You'll not likely get the remote to work. Also, you must program that receiver to recognize which input it is looking at -- My Kenwood works fine but it was a bear to get working. Perhaps a call to Kenwood tech support would help.

(ALso, look at the back of the TiVo where the optical cable connects and be sure that it is clicked in and connceted good. If it is I suggest you disconnect it and look at the TiVo to see if you see a red light where the optical conncetor is. If there is no red light then the TiVo is possibly broke. If there is light maybe you have a bad cable?
