I just recently upgraded my setup to replace my WB-68 to an SWM-8 configuration. I now have 3 HR-XXX DVR's with a single wire and dual tuners. Also, have 1 legacy tuner running off of the SWM.
Everything, seems to be working well, no issues so far. However, i noticed that my setup/info on my DRV's shows SWM version 1.08 and Library version 1.00.
I've noticed that other SWM owners (i.e. Drew2K for one) show different firmware on their SWMs. I think his is at 2.0.16 and 2.07 for library.
Is there a way to upgrade the firmware of an SWM-8. How are some user's SWM's on such newer firmware?
Just Curious I guess.

There is no public information as to how or if the firmware on a SWiM (lnb or external) is field upgradable.
All flavors of SWiMs get the latest firmware before they are shipped out.

I have one with 0.4.0 firmware and 0.4.2 library...works just fine.

I have a SWM LNB that has firmware version: 1.0.11 and library version 1.0.8. If that makes any difference.

If the SWM firmware isn't field upgradeable, these folks who think that you can integrate the MOCA function into the existing SWM implementation are in for a shock. Did I miss a point?

Do we know the differences between the firmware versions?

I have never heard what the differences are, I'm not sure anyone here knows either.

Let me guess, an old SWM5? I have one with the same firmware.

Me too. We'll have to wait and see if they come up with anything which requires the newer versions, but I have never had any issues with mine.

I dont know what the purpose of a newer version would be....they all do the same thing

As of right now they do, but there may be features in the future that will need the newer firmware.
Don't ask me what they are, I'm just speculating.......

Previously when this same question was asked....SWM firmware was not upgradable...except with a special device authorized for field personnel - and that device was not even available as of Janaury 2009.
So in short, don't plan on any SWM firmware updates for some time, if ever.

There MUST be a reason for the different firmware versions though.

You may indeed be correct...but...
...this appears to be something DirecTV has never published or shared with anyone.
