So my new DirecTv system is installed tomorrow morning. I have three receivers, 2 basic and one DirecTivo. I also plan to use a stand alone Tivo with another one of the receivers. What should I do to prepare for the installation? Any advice in general for a new DTV customer? What do I need to do to make sure I can record two shows at once using th DirecTivo? Will the installer take care of this? Thanks.

The installer will install two separate cables into you D*Tivo and you'll have no trouble recording two shows at once. You'll love it.

Thanks, how long does the installation process usually take? How long after installation until I am watching DirecTv?

I'm not sure how long it will take as I don't know how long of cable runs, etc. and how slow or fast the individual installer is. I installed my own in Jan '01 and it took me a couple of hours.

You'll be watching Directv before the installer leaves.

Usually before the installer leaves they will make sure your Direc Tv Service is up and running.

I got upgraded to new receivers and a new Phase III dish yesterday, and it took a little less than an hour. It actually took them longer to finish the activation call than connect the system!

If you get a good installer, it probably won't be much longer. I got two really good installers, they were nice, didn't cut corners, and got a great signal. They even reconnected the audio cables to my stereo, which was a pleasant surprise.

Make sure when the installer comes that you are not naked, it could be embarrassing for both of you

Other then that sit back and relax soon you will be enjoying the world of satellite television.

Enjoy! Any questions you may have after your setup, just ask them here, we are here to help. :D

Scott- Thanks for the advice. I wasn't sure which way to go on that, but I guess I'll go ahead and get dressed. I also wanted to thank everyone again for making me feel welcome. I've been to several other forums where I did not get these kind responses.

Jeter, at the completion of one install, the big customer asked me, " Is this where I'm supposed to hug you?"

"Fraid not, Dude!"

The installer installs your dish, cables, multiswitch (if applicable). He then verifies that your receiver can receive channel 100. After that is done, he'll put you on the phone with DirecTV so you can select which programming package you want. At that point you sign the paperwork and he leaves.

Once you get that dual tuner Directivo working, it won't be long before you sell your stand alone, drop the $13/mo fee and pick up another DirecTiVo. Trust me. There's nothing like being able to recored 4 shows at once!
