What are you offering them for basic and upgrade options? Last I checked, which was about two years ago, there were basically two ways to do this. One is that you could simply buy in bulk off the unpublished SMATV schedule, which winds up costing typically about two bucks more per month than comparable basic from the Hospitality schedule (about ten bucks per unit for the package I last put together that included the ESPN suite and the three local RSNs) or you could pay $13.99 per unit per month for Choice limited and pick up to 48 channels from a list that was a little skimpier than the Universal Package (which could be augmented with SMATV to fill in some desirable channels, like the RSNs - for my property it would have worked out to just over $17 with the 3 RSNs, Golf, TCM, AMC and a few others) and for I think another $20 a month, any resident could upgrade himself to "Choice", provided he could find an operator (sucker) to make that upgraded service available.
How much better does the comparable DISH package cost for basic cable for MDUs? And even if it is better, if you add L-band overlay, DISH just doesn't have the technology to compete.

13.99 for the top 200 channels and QAM is the delivery system.

That's with a $XX,XXX headend and a special DISH receiver in every unit?
Tom, did you finally get rid of all that DISH QAM stuff you've been trying to dump for the last few years, and now you feel like a sucker?
you guys doing total choice bulk have a surprise coming....your Mdu ain't gonna be to happy....over the next year, total choice is going away, it's now- choice/less channels and more pricy add-ons that can't be bought through the association.....

My post is about the new bulk deal that is already being rolled out, I'd do QAM again if it was close to home. One QAM with the right customer base can produce huge profits....

Isn't DirecTV digital bulk with a receiver in each unit $19.99 for Choice? With no expensive infrastructure and SWM, getting each customer access to everything?
I think I just figured it out, thanks Mike....my MDU contracts are old as hell, you guys have been on 19.95/choice for a while, it that right?....my MDU's are at a different price and get total choice, movies pacs can be bulk paid by association. Basiclly, from what I can deduce, they are moving my MDU's into the new MDU pricing, NEW to us!

Mike,
Check out tulsat.com for headend pricing on QAM. We are now using the 311 receivers in the units.

DirecTV is trying to get the residential/retail market on the same level as the MDU/Bulk market. This way everyone receives the same programming package and there are not all of these grandfathered packages out there.
What he is referring to is any new Digital Bulk packages signed after 6/1/2009 will now receive Choice opposed to the previous Total Choice. It is for the most part the same channel package however there are a few differences that will likely upset some people.
As long as the property has a valid contract/ROE still on file they can continue to receive Total Choice but I believe once they resign it will revert to Choice.
yeah...one of my MDU's is 10 years on the same contract, the other is 5 years out on their contract, both are being forced to change , RIGHT nOW!ummm...there's a few more zingers in the new deal...
