ya gotta wonder why lee didn't sue buffy....or the little rascals(actually the hal roach estate could probably sue lee since they predate him)....

this reminds of when waner brothers threatened to sue the marx brothers over using the name "casablanca" in the title "a night in casablanca"-groucho fired back and threatened to sue warners over the use of the word "brothers" because he and his brothers had been so longer than warners...

And Spike is NOT EVEN his real name, and he hold no TRADEMARK to his name!

This is NUTS!

While SpikeTV is a DUMB NAME they should be able to use it.

I guess they will launch as SPIKED TV

AT this point ditch the channel name and get a new one. Spike TV was awful anyway. I still like my Maxim Channel idea.

How about just using the name "Men Tv". They claim to be the first channel for Men but we beat them here in Canada we've had a channel for men simply called "Men Tv" for almost 2 years, and it sucks big time.

Someone needs to spike Lee.

To continue with the bad pun theme... :)

This is a waste of our judicial system, IMHO.
First, like Spike Lee is going to lose any money over Spike TV's using that name.
Second, the main argument the lawyers for Spike Lee used was that celebrities/entertainers have a de facto 'trademark' on a single name if it becomes closely enough identified with that person. The examples they gave were Cher, Madonna, Picasso, etc. All of those are valid, but when you hear 'Spike', do you think Spike Lee? I think of Spike the dog from the old cartoons, and I don't hear him suing
.

Cher, Madonna, etc.. go by that - just that. I don't beleive I have ever seen or heard Spike Lee refered to as Spike. I guess Nick TV better change their name because Nick Nolte already has it. And how dare USA Network call itself after an already known Country by that name!

I agree the name Maxim Channel or Maxim TV would be a good name, however they would likely be sued by Maxim magazine unless they got permission to use the name from the publication and pay a big royalty.

They could afford it.

I like how the Judge said "Sting" was a name that you would know. Wonder if he knows the wrestler Sting aka Steve Borden owns that name??

Hey Spike, TAKE A HIKE!

Even though Spike TV is a lame name, I was looking forward to its launch. I guess we'll have to wait.

I would think that Sting the rock star owns it.

No he doesn't.

The wreslter registered it as a trademark. You can look that one up for yourself.

Yes, I quoted myself.

Looks like I'm not the only one who thought of Spike the dog...

Well, since the black bar is gone they can call it what they want, I don't really care. I'm just thrilled the bar is gone!

That inch at the bottom that messed up the aspect ratio of the screen? Sweet, I hate those things.

I guess when they asked viewers to tell them what they wanted to see a lot of them told them to ditch the black bar...

Hey, they're carrying Highlander as well as ST:TNG and CSI. With the black bar in place, I didn't notice that beforehand.
