Ok since the switch this Friday I have noticed and maybe im crazy but the picture looks a lot clearer. I have Dish HD running on an LG HD tv. Talked to an other Dish member and she thought the samething. So are we crazy or did the digital switch cause the already HD channels to get better.

What channels? It shouldn't have affected networks like TNT or USA.

Maybe just less atmospheric interference.

Same here, my OTA local networks in Raleigh seem more clear since the shutdown and channel re-assignments on Friday. Not sure if they actually increased the HD signal data rate.

WRAL-CBS-5.1, WRAZ-FOX-50.1 & WNCN-NBC-17.1 are all transmitting at 1000 kW of DTV UHF signal power.

WTVD-ABC-11.1 appears to transmitting at about half that power at, so about 500 kW or so, bummer.

Hay thanks for your input.

I noticed it on the locals. Didnt really see anything on the other channels.
But for that matter why wouldnt the non locals get better. There now having to pump out less power to show both the anolog and digital so shouldnt the digital be better.

I noticed it on the locals. Didnt really see anything on the other channels. This tiny detail means everything. But for that matter why wouldnt the non locals get better. You have to work at something to make it better; especially with digital. Given that many stations kept their original digital setup where it was and at the same power, I doubt much changed for them. If you're getting a better picture now, it can't really have anything to do with the removal of analog broadcasts.

For the stations that dialed their frequencies up, they need to put out more power to get the same coverage. For stations that moved back down to VHF, they can often chop the power significantly and get the same coverage but this is less true with digital than it was with analog. There now having to pump out less power to show both the anolog and digital so shouldnt the digital be better.I'm not sure what you mean by "less power". If you mean that they're only broadcasting digital and no analog anymore, yes, they've chopped down an entire transmitter.

If you mean that they're still sending analog but at lower signals, that's typically not the case. The analog channels generally just plain went poof (or remained on nightlight status for 30 days).

Anythings possible I guess.

There is a possiblity that some equipment got replaced and/or tweaked somewhere along the broadcast chain during the switchover, thus resulting in a "better" picture for some.
