I have a 5LNB slimline with a 6x8 Multiswitch and 1 standard Reciever and 2 HD DVRs. I dont have a line of site to 110 or 119. So I told my receiver that I had a 3 LNB slimline so that the guide info message wouldnt appear. But the last few months I get the Missing Guide info many times a day. I am in the Raleigh Durham, NC TV market. I receive local channels fine. So what can I do to fix that problem???????
My signal levels are as follows
101.
Trans 1-16 = 98-100
Trans 17= 97
Trans18= 78
Trans 19-24= 94-100
Trans. 25=99
Trans 26= 0
Trans 27-32= 98-100
99c
Trans 1-16= 89-95
103c
Trans 1-16= 89-94
99s
Trans 1-8= 0
Trans 15-24= 80 86 80 70 89 87 95 95 81 82
103s
Trans 1-8= 91 76 93 91 0 95
Trans 15-16= 0
Trans 17-24= 23 0 35 0 92 98 0 0

1. Telling the rcvr that you have a 3lnb, when you really have a 5lnb is about as effective as telling your Diesel car that it's really a gasoline car and your going to start putting gas into the tank.
2. you fix it by clearing your LOS to 119, or, putting a 3lnb on your dish.

Get a 3LNB ka/ku.
Even with the IRD set to 3 LNB it will still lock into the 119 to look for guide info.

Setting your receiver to SL3 when you have an SL5 is a complete waste of time, as the other posters have said. An SL3 LNB is electrically different from an SL5 LNB. With the SL5, when you are tuned to a 103/110/119 channel the guide data comes from 119. With an SL3, the LNB "fakes" the 119 guide data (since it can't see 119) by putting the 101 guide data on the cable to the receiver when you select a 103 channel, so the guide data problem you get when you don't see 119 goes away. But if you tell the receiver you have an SL3 when you have an SL5, all that happens is you remove 110 and 119 from your satellite/channel list. When you tune a 103 channel, the receiver is still expecting the 119 signal to be stacked with 103 and of course there is no 119 signal so there is no guide.
This idea you can just tell the receiver you have an SL3 is an installer "urban legend" from people who don't understand how DirecTV actually works.
So, as already posted, buy an SL3 LNB (or any SWM system, because the SWM always gets guide data from 101) and the guide problem will be solved.

Or, if you have the PP, call DTV and report no LOS to 119 and they will replace the SL5 LNB with an SL3 for "free". I did this a few weeks ago.

You can find an SL3 on eBay for less than $30 shipped. Might be worth doing it yourself, instead of having someone wait around for that 4 hour appt. window.
