My experience as a DirecTV customer is that I went to the web site just to see if it would say if I qualify and it said that they needed to know my access card numbers lol. Thats my experience so far.

Ive got both sets of HD from Chicago and LA and the New York and San Francisco SD and the HD picture quality is good. Just a bit pricey.

Safe to assume you cannot get local Tenn channels right? I am guessing they are not giving you locals and the distant networks right?

You can get LIL's and you got Distants? How did that happen?

If you owned some E* receivers and were eligble for the distants you could subscribe to ADD without being a Dish Network subscriber.

My experience was good. I was able to get SF/ATL (then NY) ABC through them when my local ABC (Fischer) went down. I just cancelled a few days ago though since ABC came back. I used them for 5 months or so and no problems.

AA Direct gave me the HD digital distant channels for NBC and CBS, but they only showed up on my 722 receiver, not on my 2 510 receivers (SD). I wonder if the HD channels need an HD receiver. We have verified all the Receiver numbers and Smart card numbers. Neither AA Direct or Dish seems able to solve this. All receivers are using satellite 119/110. Any thoughts?

Yes, you will need an HD receiver to see HD channels. That is the short answer. The reason is that the 510's are not mpeg 4 compatible. This is the same reason that you do not see HD only channels on your 510's such as HDNET. Another tip is you never saw and HD versions on your SD receivers before you did your HD upgrade so, you won't now either.

How are people getting distants when they have a local in their market? I thought that was against Shvera. Even if you lost ABC you still shoulden't have been able to get the distant because you could pick it up OTA. I'm confused, can somebody explain?

Just for grins I plugged in an address in Austin and it came back saying I'd need waivers for all four networks.

I signed up on line for ABC HD on saturday. Two calls later and it is monday still not showing.
Now AAD is wanting to charge me $25 to cancel my SD ABC? I am trying to add HD ABC and am on hold x17 minutes waiting for a supervisor.

Anyone hear of such a charge?

Ok..they are confused...no supervisor available but all of a sudden there is no $25 charge. They give me a credit of $14 off a charge of 54.99 for six months. Just about to hang up and I confirm that she is sending the "hit" to my box....she says "what hit" I said "to turn on the HD ABC." She thanks me for reminding her...I will wait 15 miutes and post if they dont show up!

Just for fun I called today and was told I was in an area which was not eligible for distant feeds. The guy said rules are changing in three weeks and
I should call back then. I don't see how they will approve it then.

Its on. A hassle, but I have had about 14 months with them using ABC SD without any issues...maybe just bad luck/confusion with all the changes?

That dont make a difference. I get my locals OTA but the affiliates signed off on the waivers for SD. The Shvera act states that you can applay for a waiver to get them to. You dont have to be in a unserved area but that is what it was designed for.

I thought by law no matter what coast you were on your could only receive the one set of networks in HD, if you live on the west coast, no east coast feed for you as well. I asked about getting Chicago/LA both but the CSR acted like I couldn't do that not really giving me an answer. As for experiences through AAD, their CSRs are "okay" just like anywhere you get some good ones and some bad ones. Quality has gotten better since launch. I also think since the DTV switch over some of the SD channels image quality has improved again and I'm really thinking about dropping the HD channels. Nothing really on during the summer anyways and they really aren't worth $7.49 ea./month + $10.47 for my distants (I only get three)
