Why is it so hard for DirecTV to have accurate guide data? I pointed out an error over a month ago to them, they acknowledged it and said it would be corrected ... yet here a month later, the issue remains.

Basic issue is this .... if I go the DirecTV's "the guide" page at http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/epg/theGuide.jsp and enter my local zip code of 17325, I get the listing of all the channels available. Problem is, I don't get 2/3rds of the local channels that are being shown in the guide (mostly from Wash. DC).

The part of my Harrisburg DMA (in the 172xx zip) gets those channels, but those in the 173xx zip don't. I know there are all kinds of rules and criteria for who gets channels ... I'm not arguing that ... but is it so hard to be able to simply enter your zip code, and get an accurate listing of channels for your respective zip code? Apparently so.

I'm not sure where the guide data on the website comes from, but the guide on your receivers comes from Tribune Media Services which is only as accurate as the information provided to them by the various networks/local channels.

Is your on-screen program guide accurate as to the channels you receive in your ZIP code?

Check Tribune's web site at http://Zap2It.com for what they show for your zipcode.

Thanks.

The Zap2it listing is accurate, as is the on-screen guide data. I sometimes like to use DirecTV's website during the day to see if there's anything I want to see that evening .... I'll use Zap2it from now on. In fact, DirecTV should just redirect to Zap2it. At least the information there is accurate.

I just had this problem last night. I set channel 254 (AMC) to record Reign of Fire and Constatine to watch today. I just started to watch and it recorded Poltergeist for Reign of Fire but it got Constatine right. Never had this happen before. Really wanted to see Reign of Fire.

Thanks for the link.
