All the HBO/Cinemax free preview channels are still grayed out on my DP's guide (no they're not locked).
If I select a current show from the guide, it will tune to it anyway, although usually it first complains about a subscription being required.
However the PVR functions will not work on these channels. Pausing brings up the "must subscribe" page after about 10 seconds, and you have to go back to live in order to get the picture back.
Hitting the RECORD button while watching one of these channels gives you that bounce-off-wall sound, as does hitting RECORD for any HBO show in the guide. SELECTing an upcoming HBO show in the guide just gives you an INFO screen with only a DONE button.
I tried a manual timer for a HBO movie. On the plus side there a new dialog box that pops up when a manual timer has a conflict. However all I got when the movie started was a blank one minute recording.
The only workaround I found that worked (once anyway), was to set up a manual recording, and to manually select the channel before the recording started. I got a good recording this way and was able to use PVR features while I played it. This workaround limits you to recording from only one channel if you are not at home.
I tried a switch check and 7225000 to no avail. I call dish and the CSR had me disconnect SAT in and unplug the power. When I plugged it back in the DP started rebooting itself over and over. It took me 45 minutes and a 32768 to get it back to normal, and I still can't record HBO from the guide.
