Lately I've noticed that nearly every PPV ad has been a "Directv Pay Per View" event rather than "Blockbuster Pay Per View." Doing a search on Google yielded the page on blockbuster.com which discussed their agreement with Directv, but it yielded a 404. A search using Blockbuster's website yielded nothing. Did the agreement expire?

Looks that way. I saw BB still selling Directv systems last week, but that too may have stopped.

BTW, I only go to BB to check the prices on pre-played games. BB sucks otherwise, so if Directv has no more ties to them, I say good riddance :D

DirecTv seems to be good at dropping retailers.

The deal was Blockbuster would help DirecTV gain more customers. Blockbuster would entice free rentals on their part.

In exchange, Blockbuster would get percentage of DirecTV's PPV revenue (not adult), even for movies from studios that werent Viacom affiliated.

I dont think DirecTV was happy with the deal. They found Blockbuster didnt help them achieve many new customers altogether. Then why still give BB a percentage of the PPV revenue. I'm not surprised the relation is folding.

I also think with Murdoch (Fox) getting control of DirecTV, it would be conflict probably if Viacom (Blockbuster) was still getting a percent of PPV revenue for movies that are not even Paramount.

DirecTV still has its CBS Mega March Madness exclusivity that Viacom is granting them. Both Viacom and Fox (with some ties to DirecTV) were fighting to keep NFL Sunday Ticket off Cable's InDemand.

Blockbuster Schmockmuster. As long as I can see the movie who cares.

When I was looking for an extra DirecTV receiver 2 weeks ago, the closest DirecTV retailer was like 40 miles away! Blockbuster used to come up as a retailer. Nearest Blockbuster, 5 miles. A few days later, I noticed the same thing. No BB logo in the PPV ads.

As of a week ago, Blockbuster was still handling DirecTV. The thing that made me hesitate to go through them was that in going through BB you were basically purchasing a certificate to be redeemed through DirecTV, it was just as easy to go directly through D*.

Pay Per views are still showing up on my guide with a little blockbuster logo in the title field.

My local newspaper this past Sunday had several adds for Blockbuster/DTV deals, they have also been running commercials on local tv, so they must still be partners.

Why even bother going through B&M retailers? You can do it all through DirecTV.com, or by phone or online from other retailers.
