What advantages are there to having your receiver hooked to the internet? I have 622 with Absolute package on a 1080/24p LCD.

Just wondering if it is worth the trouble.

1) you will not be required to have the phone line connected.
2) you can access the Dishonline for some free and pay shows that you can download.
3) you can use the dish.sling.com site to remotely control your receiver. A seperate Sling receiver is required if you want to view programs from your receiver.

To order PPV and VOD in 1080p and to save $5 on additional tuner fee.

If you're direct billed, you can access your DVR from the Dish website.

I had my 612 connected to the internet but just recently disconnected it. I moved my 612 into the closet and the Ethernet cable just about makes it but it tugs to much on my router. I will probably reconnect it again if I get a longer Ethernet cable. I don't have to connect it because the 612 does not get a service fee if not connected.

Correct, only duo-TV receivers have that requirement.

Not necessarily. My son has no land line phone, just a cell. He does have DSL but that is on another floor. When the installer activated his 722 he told Dish there would be no phone or network connection. Dish does not charge him for being disconnected.

He is probably involved in the Dish Dvr Advantage which 99% of the time comes with a 2 year commitment bundles your english programming, locals, dvr service fee and waives 1 tv2 connection fee.

Thanks for all the answers. It's about 30' from my DSL service to my receiver. I will probably just go ahead and run it now.
